Downtown Kansas City Royals Stadium Spawns Parking Hellscape?!?

And so . . . We're getting a glimpse at the future of a downtown Kansas City which continues to declare war on personal individual private automobile ownership.

Just like in the world of cheapskate software development . . .

Downtown development working toward parking chaos is a feature not a bug

More accurately . . .

KANSAS CITY ROYALS DOWNTOWN STADIUM THREATENS PARKING HELLSCAPE FOR DOWNTOWN!!!

On peak days, the goal seems to be the creation of local gridlock so awful that people who NEED to get downtown will have to give up and just take a Zoom call.

Again . . .

This isn't a consequence . . . It's a plan.

At least that's the only thing we can interpret from this bit of assurance from our betters . . . Check-it:

"According to Earl Santee, CEO of Populous, there are more existing parking spaces available downtown than are currently at Kauffman Stadium.

"The team would not need to build new parking spaces, he said, since there are 40,000 parking spaces in the 'greater downtown area”, compared to 26,000 in the lot at the K. According to Santee’s estimates, those 40,000 spots would be within about a 20-minute walk of the new stadium.

"The existing parking spaces, he said, are a combination of public street parking, parking garages and other parking structures within a half-mile radius of the proposed site."

Again . . .

DUDE SEYZ THERE IS ALREADY ENOUGH PARKING IN DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY TO ACCOMMODATE NEARLY 50K MORE PEOPLE!!!

Sure.

Again, the biggest unspoken problem in this equation is walking back to your car in the dark in a town suffering historic deadly crime. . . AND, the very real likelihood of an emergency.

To be fair . . .

This planning might take into account that, for most baseball seasons, the Royals will still suck and the stadium will be half empty by June.

If KC gets a downtown stadium, where will everyone park? Royals say it's not an issue

The team insists parking would not be a problem for fans at a downtown ballpark. Here's how many spots are available.

If the KC Royals copy this city's example, count me in on a new downtown-area stadium | Opinion

An entertainment venue in a similar Midwestern metropolitan area made sure to give back to its community. From Toriano Porter:

The Royals want your tax dollars for a new stadium. What to know before you vote:

The proposed Royals stadium would require the demolition of six blocks in the Crossroads Art District, including this row of businesses along Grand Street. Jackson County voters will decide in April whether to subsidize the project with a sales tax. Upward of $1.7 billion taxpayer dollars are on the line this April.

Crossroads survey shows opposition to Royals stadium proposal

The Crossroads Community Association released results of a survey it conducted, asking members how they feel about a new Royals baseball stadium.
