In a year when KC's urban core endured more homicides than at any point in local history . . . Local leaders are focused on economic prosperity and advancement. 

While it's correct that people with more money rarely end up in street level gun battles . . . We're uncertain if cash grabs powered by civil rights era language serve to inspire the community.

Sadly, the report by Mary Sanchez doesn't answer any of our questions . . .

"On Monday, the official MLK holiday, more events sponsored by the local chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) will explore ways to close the gap between Black and white wealth accumulation."
