So many local musicians sacrifice time, money and personal relationships thinking that they have to move to another city to pursue a creative career . . . The truth is that you can FAIL right here in Kansas City.
In fact, this town has launched so many mediocre bands, artists and scribes that there's no reason to think that another local art scene will elevate a career . . . In fact, this cowtown hosts a burgeoning "community" of unsuccessful creative types who pretend to like one another and their bad tattoos.
Double bonus . . . Being close to home makes it easier and more cost effective to ask parents for money.

Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, The Record Machine is a testament to both Midwestern creativity and Nathan Reusch’s own ability to adapt with the times. “When we started, we had to put out a physical CD or something to actually sign a band,” Reusch says. “There was no digital distribution at the time. It wasn’t until three or four years in that we could put music on iTunes.”
