How Will Kansas City Re-engineer Iconic Buck O'Neil Bridge Leftovers?!?

The bridge is an elegant remnant from a nearly forgotten time when urban architecture involved something greater and more impressive than cookie cutter designs manufactured with Chinese steel. 

The only thing we know for sure . . . It's very likely that any resulting artwork crafted with approval and help from 12th & Oak will be abhorrent. 

Apropos for #TBT, here's the idea that wants to use the old metal for something more meaningful than scrap:

Steel from the historic triple-arch design could eventually be used in an open-ended project. The city is calling on heavy-duty designers for ideas.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is currently working with Kansas City to figure out ways to store the giant trusses in the meantime.

As demolition nears for the outgoing Buck O'Neil Bridge, a possible second life is on the table, at least for parts of the structure.
