Per ushe . . . Our rulers at city hall imagine that they control popular sentiment and dictate the fates of local residents. In reality, they mostly preside over low turnout elections and diligently work to avoid sparking voter backlash.
And all this brings us to the recent departure of the Water Director, Wes Minder.
A quick glimpse at the sitch . . .
Reflexively . . . Locals gripe about the Water Department and haven't noticed that, over the past couple of years, there have been fewer problems. Wes Minder was actually pretty great at his job and cleaned up countless mistakes committed by his predecessors.
The only problem . . .
It seems that "the community" wants to achieve another "first" way of promoting the first Black female water department director . . . That's nice but we're certain that locals would rather enjoy safe, efficient and low cost delivery of a resource essential to human survival rather than win arguments on the Internets.
Maybe we're being too optimistic.
Nevertheless . . . Here's the punchline:
It's obvious that's a lot more to the story of Wes Minder's departure.
However . . .
What our fearless leaders might not know is that Thanksgiving week house cleaning also hopes to launch another effort to oust the city manager.
Behind the scenes . . .
The very same crew that sought progress by way of Water Department power moves has now set their ambitions even higher and a husband & wife team promoted by the City Manger are in talks to push him out . . . That's kinda cold but the power dynamics of city hall are changing quickly as 2024 election season gets underway.
To his credit . . .
City Manager Brian Platt has proven too smart to let his career fall victim to "community" demands for his departure.
In fact . . . We can count at last three major attempt push him aside and he outlasted them all by staying loyal to Mayor Q and leveraging his relationships with council.
Will this time play out differently???
We'll have to see how new Northland council members feel about Mayor Q's status quo.
Right now there aren't 9 votes to remove Brian Platt . . . But "new facts" might convince elected officials otherwise or at least encourage a bit of risk taking given that the rest of us aren't already making Beltway moving plans like the current Administration.
Developing . . .
