Kansas City 2023 Homicide #173: Troost Deadly Gunfire Reported

A local activist demanded a name change on this street and hoped to change it to "Truth Avenue" which sounds like corny setting from a bad detective novel. 

Turns out a survey revealed that residents along this corridor opposed the name-change.

Tonight . . . 

Gunfire pushes this town closer to ANOTHER record-breaking total and past last year's 2nd highest count for KCMO homicides.

Here's the first report . . .

Homicide 11700 Block of Troost

On 11/30/2023 just after 3 pm, officers were dispatched to 11700 block of Troost Ave on a reported EMS event.  While enroute the call was updated to a possible shooting.

Upon arrival, officers were directed inside the residence and located an adult male inside the residence suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.  EMS arrived on scene and subsequently pronounced the victim deceased.

The circumstances leading up to the homicide are unknown.  There is subject of interest in custody and we have no reason to believe there is an immediate risk to the public.

Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Personnel have responded to the scene.  They will be processing the scene to recover any evidence and speaking to any potential witnesses.

There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information provided to TIPS which leads to an arrest in the case.
