The midweek morning news cycle starts with more tragedy . . . This time inside the loop as police investigate the aftermath of a deadly early morning altercation that keeps KCMO on pace with record breaking deadly stats.

Homicide 1000 block of Broadway
On 11/15/23 just before 3am, officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Broadway Blvd. on a reported sounds of shots. While officers were enroute the call was updated to a shooting.
Upon officer arrival, an adult male victim was observed laying in the street outside of a nearby vehicle. The male was suffering from apparent gunshot trauma and was unresponsive. Responding officers immediately began rendering medical aid to the victim until EMS arrived. EMS responded and declared the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation is believed the altercation started over an argument before gunfire was exchanged.
Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to begin gathering evidence and collecting witness statements.
We do not have a person of interest in custody at this time. Detectives do not believe there is a threat to the surrounding areas related to this incident.
This scene is being invested as a homicide and it’s considered ongoing at this time.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
