Here's How Mayor Q & Activists Threaten To Worsen Affordable Rent Crisis

Again . . . Maybe the public education system in Kansas City is REALLY responsible for this crisis in the making given that so many locals don't know how basic economics worse.

Here's our best effort to explain . . .

Municipal over-regulation like rent control along with sanctions & moratoriums on legit evictions only serve to drive affordable housing providers out of the market. The end result: Mainly properties at the ultra high-end or government subsidized housing projects.

It's as simple as that . . . This kind of nightmarish situation isn't theoretical in places like Manhattan, NYC or San Francisco . . . Progressives have tinkered with housing so much that many neighborhoods can only sustain millionaires and homeless people.

And so . . . As we slouch toward an election year . . . Mayor Q is pushing bad policy that threatens to worsen the housing crisis in Kansas City . . . Here's the proof and a passage from today's news . . .

"Now KC Tenants is trying again, hoping that the new council elected last summer will pass an ordinance introduced Thursday that not only prohibits landlords from taking into consideration a potential renter’s source of income, but also from screening out tenants based solely on measures of their financial stability or past history as a renter.

"The ordinance would impose a $1,000 penalty for each violation. Repeat offenders would be required to take and pay for courses on how to comply with the ordinance, among other requirements.

"Among the six co-sponsors is Lucas, who was instrumental in getting the Tenants Bill of Rights passed in December 2019 by removing that provision from the legislation during the contentious, two-month process to get the rest of it passed."
