Fact Check: UG Bond Rating A1 As Mayor Garner Fears Bankruptcy

This afternoon a KICK-ASS TKC READER sent us this bit of info that sheds light on a local conversation. 

The basics . . .

ACTUALLY, THE CREDIT RATING FOR THE UG IS DECENT & DIVIDING THE DOTTE MIGHT NOT BE AN ECONOMIC DEBATE!!!

While we respect Mayor Garner's economic concerns . . . It's our job here at TKC to share both sides of the debate . . . And so, here is a retort sent our way . . .

"Moody’s rates the Unified Government as an A1 bond rating.

"Thought it might add context to all this 'bankruptcy' talk from the mayor. I’m thinking this talk all might be just political bluster."

Moody's Investors Service has assigned an A1 rating to the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, KS' (UG) $42.3 million General Obligation Improvement Bonds, Series 2023-A and MIG 1 ratings to the $44.8 million Municipal Temporary Notes, Series 2023-I and $6.5 million Municipal Temporary Notes, Series 2023-II.
