Kansas City Council honors two young Trans Kansas Citians for LGBTQ+ History Month in Kansas City.

Tristan Young and Landon Patterson both made history after being named homecoming queen at Oak Park High School in 2015 and 2023.

KANSAS CITY, MO. (October 26, 2023) – Earlier today at City Hall, the Kansas City Council passed a resolution honoring Tristan Young and Landon Patterson for LGBTQ+ History Month. Tristan Young and Landon Patterson both made history when their peers named Landon homecoming queen in 2015 and Tristan Young in 2023. This resolution was spearheaded by the Kansas City Office of Councilwoman, Andrea Bough (6th District At-Large) and the City of Kansas City’s LGBTQ Commission.

From our commission chair, Justice Horn: “October is LGBTQ+ History Month and today, we’ve honored two young people and Trans trailblazers named Tristan Young and Landon Patterson! Both made history after their peers made them the first and second Trans women to be named homecoming queen at Oak Park High School in Kansas City. May this Kansas City Resolution solidify our support for two young people and the greater Trans community across our region.” 

FYI: The Kansas City LGBTQ Commission is a commission that was created December 17th of 2020 by the Kansas City Council. The thirteen member commission has six in-district commissioners from the six city council districts and seven speciality commissioners in the areas of housing, health, public safety, education, etc. etc. This is the city and states first and only Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Queer Commission. They work on LGBTQ+ policy in the City of Kansas City, MO.
