Kansas City 2023 Homicide Crisis Hits Black Community Hardest

Today we note that Kansas City, Missouri is actually outpacing record breaking homicide stats from 2020. 

According to KCPD's blue sheet just updated today . . .

So far Kansas City has recorded 157 homicides in 2023. 

At this date on the calendar on 2020 there were only 156 for a year end total of 179 - The highest number of homicides in recorded local history. 

Last year local killings had only numbered 148 at this date. 

And so . . .

Today we want to highlight numbers from Kansas City's top local criminologist, a local professor and a leading expert that has graciously shared info with our TKC blog community.

KANSAS CITY'S 2023 HOMICIDE TAKES DISPROPORTIONATELY DEADLY TOLL ON LOCAL BLACK COMMUNITIES!!!

Here's a glimpse at the data from Dr. Ernest Evans . . . 

"The crime crisis in the black neighborhoods of KCMO is continuing.  As of today, there have been 118 black homicides in KCMO in 2023 and 37 white/Asian/Hispanic homicides.  At this point in 2022 there had been 98 black homicides and 41 white/Asian/Hispanic homicides.  So, crime in the white/Asian/Hispanic neighborhoods appears to be stable while there is a sharp increase in the violence in the black neighborhoods of our city."

We can only hope this info helps to curb the local violence and assists residents confronting and hoping to try to understand this ongoing tragedy.
