Kansas City 2023 Homicide #157: Witnesses Scatter After Deadly Shooting

Unofficially, Kansas City is now pushing ahead of record breaking 2020 homicide stats after this latest killing. 

In 2020, the most violent year in our history, KCMO had only recorded 156 killings as of this date on the calendar. Last year the pace was only 145 at the end of October.

What we notice first from the narrative at the scene . . . Locals didn't seem very enthused about cooperating with police immediately following the murder. We can only hope further investigation will generate more info and the community, eventually, will decide to come forward and share their story. 

Here's the first report . . .

Homicide 3500 block of E 61st

Tonight just after 7pm officers were dispatched to the 3500 block of E. 61st St. On a shooting call. There were also multiple 911 calls for sound of shots in the area.

On arrival officers located an adult male shooting victim in the street, unresponsive.

Officers summoned EMS into the scene who declared the victim deceased.

Based on preliminary investigation detectives believe there were numerous people that were nearby at the time of the shooting who left the scene prior to police arrival.

Detectives are canvassing for witnesses and Crime Scene investigators are processing the scene for evidence.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.

Homicide near east 61st Street

KCPD is currently investing a homicide in the area of the 3500 block of 61st Street. Police is reporting shots fired in the area, resulting in a fatal shooting.
