40 Million Bucks For Starlight Canopy Ignores Kansas City Crime Threat

Starlight is a local treasure that continually has cash problems because artsy investments rarely succeed.

However . . .

Their latest gambit disregards the crux of their greatest dilemma.

EPIC STARLIGHT CANOPY PLANS OVERLOOK HIGH CRIME THREATENING ARTSY PATRONS!!!

We all know the history here . . .

Not so along ago, actually a decade ago, a suburban mom was shot dead after enjoying a performance and that sent shockwaves through patrons that still linger.

Moreover . . .

The Swope Park Bandstand typically scares Starlight patrons on their way into the facility and audible & awful hip-hop and gunfire typically can be heard during performances.

Real talk . . .

It's really hard to enjoy the Sound Of Music when mumble rap is thumping in the background and suburbanites shudder as they hear screams of terror from nearby gunshots.

And don't even get us started on the bats . . . A problem that has NEVER been resolved.

Anyhoo . . .

We like ambition but Starlight would be wiser to invest this cash in security and better parking access rather than a canopy.

In fairness, here is their pitch . . .

"Starlight Theatre launched its $40 million Uniquely KC Campaign to push the mission of connecting Kansas Citians through live performances that entertain, inspire and engage.

"Starlight Theatre said it will use the money for capital projects like a state-of-the-art seating canopy, a new production truss and a light bridge at the central campus."
