Outcry Intensifies After Kansas City, Kansas Auto Parts Homicide Charge

From "many sides" we can't help but notice worsening frustration and outrage following a tragic death in the Dotte this week amid an auto parts store robbery.

The largely unspoken angst deserves to be heard inasmuch as it can be articulated without delving into reactionary racism that does little to help the cause of working stiff on the hook for mistakenly trying to defend the register.

Here's the legit concern . . .

A recent KCK death during a fight that was sparked by stealing seems more like a case of MANSLAUGHTER and not homicide to supporters of law and order.

Meanwhile . . .

Local media has focused only on the charges against an auto parts store manager and now gives voice to concern from the family.

Here's a worthwhile report that deserves a look:

Police responded to a call of a disturbance at the O’Reilly Auto parts store on the 4700 block of Parallel Parkway on Tuesday. Upon arrival, they were informed two people were allegedly shoplifting from the store. Employees got involved leading to a physical altercation outside the store. The altercation resulted in Diamond Stein’s death and left another man injured.

Law enforcement officials charged Carl Kempainnen with second-degree murder and ruled Steen’s death a homicide, caused by strangulation. His family believes the employees should have handled things differently

“You are supposed to stay away from the subject and call the police because you’re taking not even yourself at risk you’re taking the customers at risk, you’re taking the associates at the store at risk,” said Steen’s cousin.

Official word . . .

“Make no mistake, it is law enforcement’s job to do the policing, no one else’s,” Wyandotte County District Attorney Mark Dupree said in a Thursday news conference announcing the charges against Kemppanian.
