Right now we check the aftermath of a local Eco-friendly that hoped to save the planet in these 8 years we have left until skyfall.
The data is confounding for many given that global cooling seems to be trending and that runs contrary to the fiery messages that about the hottest Summer on record as the world burns.
And so . . . To attempt to understand the big picture . . . We look toward local efforts.
Here's a peek at today's meetup that worked to save the world by way of a hearty freebie lunch, swag bags and glossy handouts about upcoming progressive events and opportunities for election season volunteering:
10 counties in Missouri and Kansas that include 19 communities in the region – representing 83% of the metropolitan population – have taken supporting actions regarding the plan to become carbon neutral by 2050.
The goal of the summit was to brainstorm ideas and create collaborative projects that utilize the billions of government dollars that are being funneled down for resiliency-related projects.

Journey to net zero | KC sets goals for reaching net zero by 2050 at 2023 Climate Summit
600 participants from around the Kansas City region helped brainstorm green infrastructure goals for the next 10, 20 and 30 years as Kansas City aims to reach net zero by 2050.
Again, we aren't going to deride anyone's effort to get off of the sofa and out into the streets.
At the very least, concern about the future of the planet deserves a modicum of respect for a hint of altruism in a world wherein so many spend their days holding a black mirror to their faces.
And so . . . Tonight's TKC playlist is inspired by the Kansas City Climate Summit and the struggle to save the planet from pollution and pessimism.
Forgive us . . . Saturday night is for nostalgia and this 2002 Counting Crows cover of a 1960s Joni Mitchell song speaks to old school TKC days before we knew better than to try and bother hottie baristas.
A somewhat more recent song has a chill vibe but a haunting message about eternal Summer . . .
This song from Billie Elish is kinda dark but offers an interesting juxtaposition betwixt earthly concerns and spiritual well-being.
This pop rock tune is more than a decade old but shares a vague concern for the world amid personal struggles.
Finally, an award-winning late 80s classic from down under defines the environmental movement for Gen-X and might be the last time that there was an earnest and somewhat decent pop song about saving the planet.
Again, if the world is soon to end by way of fiery destruction caused by your mom's SUV, at least we can stay tuned into apropos music.
As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe & fun Saturday night.
