Jackson County, Missouri, becomes one of the first counties to implement Missouri Senate Bill 190, which was passed as an effort to freeze property taxes for seniors.
“I promised fair and predictable taxation, and through this process, I have fought for just that. Today, we have provided relief to seniors who need it most, and I will continue to advocate for greater localized control of taxation by the legislature to provide faster solutions when the administration is unwilling to help,” said Budget Chair Manny Abarca.

The Jackson County Legislature passed an ordinance Monday that will provide some property tax relief for senior citizens, but not right away.

Under the legislation, Jackson County seniors whose homes are valued less than $550,000 can start applying for relief next year.
