Rewriting Kansas City Climate History?!?

Don't worry . . . TKC doesn't claim to understand any of "the science" beyond finding the best gas station coffee.

However . . .

Here's a falsehood that's floating around on socials . . .

"You have to go all the way back to the Dust Bowl to find a worse stretch of 100°+ days in August here in KC"

Here's the record for reference . . .

"In all, there were 16 straight days of 100 degree temperatures that August and a total of 53 non-consecutive 100 degree days that summer. While the high temperatures were the most prolonged in 1936, it was not the only notable heat wave in Kansas City's history."

With all of the "heat index" confusion . . . We can see how the mistake would be easy to make.

But it didn't break 100 degrees on Monday or Sunday . . .

So . . . We might have not broken the 2003 record .  . . 6 days of 100 degree temperatures in August.

Or even the 1980 record of 6 days of 100 degree heat in July.

Again . . .

We don't claim climate expertise and none of this is an endorsement of your stupid SUV.

And so we offer one more link that will confirm your bias one way or another . . . .
