Two things . . .
I wanted to take a pause from the blog this morning because the recent murder of a local cop merits a moment of silence and careful consideration of where "we" are going as a metropolitan area.
Returning to news . . . We start with a screed that is so unhinged, predictable and lame that it also required deliberation.
The premise . . .
THE STAR SEYZ VOTING FOR PREZ TRUMP IN FREE & FAIR ELECTIONS IS AKIN TO VOTING FOR PUTIN?!?!
Let that sink in and then realize this lady was a finalist for a Pulitzer.
Let's get our TKC bias out of the way . . . I would rather vote for Donald Duck than Prez Biden OR former Prez Trump . . . I'll settle for Scrooge McDuck given that he has the funds to finance an effective third party campaign which would be more interesting than anything Jay Nixon is hyping.
However . . .
What TKC will never tolerate is unquestioned repetition of talking points from the Clinton foundation.
Even progressive pundit Van Jones accurately commented that Russian collusion allegations and so much innuendo about connections to Vladimir Putin leveled against Prez Trump were a "nothing burger" in the first set of indictments against the former Prez that, indeed, added up to NOTHING but a series of semi-funny SNL skits.
And so . . .
This leads us to our cowtown paper wherein the columnist gives conspiracy theories, forced analogies, partisan rhetoric and then an imagined conversation with a stern rebuke of the former Prez who earned the support of slightly more or less than half of the American voting public.
Humbly was ask . . .
WHAT READERSHIP IS THE STAR ATTEMPTING TO ATTRACT WITH THIS SCREED?!?
Progressive readers can witness better versions of this reasoning from MSNBC or CNN . . . And conservatives abandoned the daily paper long ago.
Local news overall is a fading institution that is better "covered" by social media algorithms and non-profit foundations.
Meanwhile, the newspaper is still a quasi-biz arrangement until their hedge fun owner decides to bust up McClatchy and profit from the spare parts.
In the meantime . . . We're merely share the money line of the screed and ask our best readers to try and make sense of it all . . . Here's the newspaper argument against the leading Republican presidential contender via a sketchy conversation that probably didn't happen:
“What are we going to do about Trump?” he asked. What I answered is not important, but what he said then really is.
I wasn’t taking notes, so I am not going to put this in quotes, but it’s pretty close: We have to stop him, no matter what it costs us, or we’re going to lose everything, said my friend, who I’m not naming out of concern for his safety. We’re going to lose our democracy. Americans have had it so good for so long, they have no idea what that means, and I hope they never find out, but if we don’t wake up, this is going to be no different from Putin’s Russia or Iran under the mullahs. You see that, right?
Unfortunately, yes.

If we return Trump to power, 'this is going to be no different from Putin's Russia' | Opinion
If you have read his latest indictment, you know he was willing even to use force to stay in power. There is a word for that, and it is certainly not "conservative." From Melinda Henneberger:
