Sadly, this latest homicide keeps KCMO near a record-breaking pace for homicide in 2023. The spike over last year's numbers is nearly 20% YTD and, again, we're on pace to suffer at least as many homicides as 2020 -- The deadliest year in Kansas City, Missouri recorded history.

Homicide 1800 block E 67th St
On 08/31/23 just before 845PM, officers were dispatched on a reported Disturbance of multiple parties fighting in the 1800 block of E 67th. While en route, the call was updated to a shooting.
Upon arrival officer located an adult male laying in the street suffering from apparent single gunshot would. Officers noticed the victim was unresponsive and immediately began rendering medical aid until EMS arrived and took over. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
The preliminary investigation is believed the incident began over a physical altercation between multiple parties outside of a nearby residence. The physical altercation was believed to have stemmed from a verbal argument.
Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to the scene for processing and gathering evidence, as well as speaking with any potential witnesses.
Detectives do not currently have any persons of interest in police custody and this investigation is considered on-going.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
