While several hurdles such as public hearings and implementation remain, the initiative has garnered the support legislators eager to see this proposal through.

"That's what I want to push and push it quickly," Jackson County Legislator Sean Smith said. "It's extremely critical that we pass it and make it effective this year because otherwise people will start to make economic decisions."

"It is relief we can offer right now," Jackson County Legislator Manny Abarca IV said.

New hopes of tax relief for seniors as Jackson County, Missouri Legislature pursues freeze on property taxes

The Jackson County Legislature is working to become the first in the state to freeze taxes for people on Social Security.
