Speculation of a pardon began when Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker, earlier this summer, issued an open letter to Parson expressing her desire to not see Devalkenaere pardoned.
Parson's office called the letter "political games" and said he has not had discussions with Peters Baker.
Devalkenaere did appeal the conviction and oral arguments for that case begin soon.

Eric Devalkenaere was convicted and sentenced to six years in prison for the shooting death of Cameron Lamb.
