Show-Me Fireworks Warning Amid Drought

Missouri's drought has grown from covering 7.5% of the state to 93.3% over the past three months, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. Much of the extreme drought is in central and northeast Missouri.

Firework sales began June 20 and end July 10. The Missouri Department of Public Safety said the Division of Fire Safety issued permits to more than 1,500 seasonal fireworks stands.

Missouri had the highest value of fireworks sold per person in the nation in 2022, according to ValuePenguin, a popular finance site that analyzed U.S. Census Bureau trade data in its per-capita methodology. The Show-Me State imported $125.8 million in fireworks at an average of $20.40 per person.
