Kansas City Suffers Massacre On Prospect

Early Sunday morning word hit Kansas City news outlets that "multiple people" have suffered deadly gunfire on Kansas City's roughest street. 

The aftermath so far . . .

The crisis puts us at a 30% spike over last year's homicide pace and even ranks higher than 2020 numbers -- The deadliest year in KCMO history. 

Here's the first report . . . 

Homicide 57th and Prospect 

This morning just after 4:30am officers were called to 57th and Prospect on a shooting call.

On arrival officers located 3 shooting victims unresponsive in a parking lot and in the street just to the south of the intersection.

Those 3 victims, 2 adult males and 1 adult female were declared deceased here at the scene.

Officers on scene were advised that a total of 5 additional shooting victims arrived at various hospitals by private vehicles or ambulance. Those victims are all believed to have non-life threatening injuries.

Preliminary information indicates there was a large gathering of people in a parking lot at the intersection when the victims were shot.

Detectives and Crime Scene investigators are processing the scene for evidence as well as speaking with any people that remained at the scene to gather more information 

Detectives are confident that there are many witnesses to this incident that would have valuable information. If anyone was in or around the area at this time and saw or heard anything they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS there is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.

We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.

Multiple dead after shooting at 57th and Prospect in Kansas City

Multiple people are dead after an overnight shooting Sunday at 57th and Prospect in Kansas City.

Multiple people injured, killed after 2 shootings on Prospect Avenue overnight

The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department responded to two shootings on Prospect Avenue early Sunday morning, one of which claimed the lives of multiple people.

Update . . . There has been another death reported in this spate of gunfire . . . Which brings this year's KCMO homicide count to #96: 

Here's the report . . . 

This morning (06/25/23) just after 3:00 am officers were on patrol in the area of 31st and Prospect when they observed numerous people firing gunshots at a vehicle and a person at that location.

When the subjects observed officers numerous vehicles left the scene eastbound.

The initial officers observed a shooting victim and responded to check on him and began rendering aid. EMS responded and transported the victim to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

Additional officers responded to the area to attempt to locate any of the people or vehicles that were initially observed by officers. This effort was met with negative results.

Detectives and Crime Scene investigators responded and processed the scene for evidence and canvassed for witnesses.

This afternoon detectives were notified the victim, an adult male, died at the hospital from his injuries.

The Homicide Unit has now taken over the investigation.
