Insiders warn us about how the current property tax crisis might play out in the coming weeks and months.
There are a few things to consider and they're all important . . .
1. Delay time on Assessments . . .
The mad dash for tax relief as the deadline approaches will leave most out in the cold. In fact, this late notice might be a major sticking point in legal action against the courthouse according to insiders.
2. Jackson County is ALREADY IN COMPLIANCE with Missouri rules on odd-year re-assessments . . .
This one is tricky and we don't understand it completely BUT the courthouse likes to shift blame for tax hikes onto Missouri rules. In fact, 85% of Missouri counties are out of compliance when it comes to property taxes . . . Jackson County is one of the few places up to day with Missouri standards.
3. Consulting company methodology & tech might soon come into play and include more criticism of the County Assessor . . .
A close look at this process has elicited many questions about the Assessor's role in this tax hikes and how the office works with consultant in order to raise rates for some by as much as 775% . . . So far there is an effort to address those concerns through the appeals process . . . Putting the burden of proof on the taxpayer rather than hoping for accuracy from local government.
There's more to cover here but we wanted to share an insider perceptive that we value . . .
"McClain has an impeccable reputation when it comes to this kind of legal work. This case is worth watching because stakeholders and business owners are now moving against the Administration . . . After Jackson County has given so much to Frank White . . . The betrayal and mismanagement is a major disappointment and a sign that he doesn't have much respect for his constituents or this community."
