Way back in 1987 the FCC abolished the "fairness doctrine" and the old school medium has used that leeway to mostly serve as an outlet for partisan speech . . . And a great many sketchy products.
Still . . . Despite the rules of terrestrial radio . . . Kansas City's top petitioner hopes to appeal to their sense of decency . . .
Mayoral Candidate Clay Chastain press release: Polls show there is one thing most agree with....you can't trust America's liberal news media. Chastain files FCC discrimination complaint against KCUR 89.3 NPR for unfairly, unjustly and unprofessionally using it's radio station (during Primary Election) to promote (Progressive) Lucas & demote (Conservative) Chastain. The public was not allowed to hear Chastain's views and vision for improving Kansas City. Instead, listeners of KC's (publicly-funded) National Public Radio station just heard Lucas talk about how Republican's "hateful rhetoric" was harming Kansas City.
To: Mr. Gary Schonmax, Special Legal Counsel for the Federal Communications Commission.
From: KC Mayoral Candidate, Clay Chastain.
Dear Sir,
Mayor Quinton Lucas and I are the only two candidates on the ballot. During the course of the election campaign, NPR did not treat us the same. National Public Radio discriminated against me (by way of it's twin discriminator's - KCUR's....News Director CJ Janovy & Up to Date host, Steve Kraske) by making a deliberate and unjust distinction that gave Lucas voice while silencing mine.
Facts that support this alleged discrimination:
(1) NPR's Kraske interviewed Lucas while ignoring my requests to be interviewed.
(2) Kraske even exhorted local media (KCPBS "Week in Review") to join him in ignoring me.
(3) Janovy (and her news staff) ignored my repeated calls to be interviewed.
NPR never contacted me during the election.
NPR acted as a cheerleader for Lucas.
NPR abdicated it's responsibility to be fair.
NPR misused taxpayer money to manipulate.
NPR is a far-left propaganda machine that is hurting Kansas City and needs to be fined for abusing the public trust.
Sincerely, Clay Chastain
