Kansas City Suffers 2nd Tuesday Homicide Amid 25% Spike Over Last Year

KCPD updated homicide stats this week and here's what's important a few voters head to the polls.

KANSAS CITY'S 2023 HOMICIDE PACE IS MORE THAN 25% HIGHER THAN LAST YEAR & THREATENING TO BREAK ANOTHER RECORD!!!

In any kind of vibrant Democracy that wasn't completely ruled by corporate corruption . . . The entire metro would be having a conversation about this and the topic would be at the forefront of local discussion.

Instead . . .

Kansas City is caught in an infinite loop of culture war politics and petty personal vendettas.

Don't be us wrong . . . There are a few promising candidates who are making local crime their top priorities.

But let's be honest . . . This conversation has been politely ignored for DECADES.

And now most of us are content to politely ignore the numbers.

For now, we'll simply share the news deets . . .

Police say just before 5 a.m. they received a call for an armed party in the 8600 block of Hillcrest Road. When officers arrived on scene they discovered one deceased victim.

After the suspect fired shots at police, KCPD returned fire and did not strike the suspect.

The suspect was taken into custody.

Here's the first report . . .

Homicide and OIS

This morning just before 5am, officers were called to 8601 Hillcrest on an armed disturbance which was subsequently updated to sounds of shots and then a shooting.  Upon arrival, officers located a victim, an adult male, inside the hotel suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.  Officers began performing life saving measures on the victim.

Simultaneously, additional officers on scene were directed by a witness to the suspect who was running southbound from the scene on foot. Officers pursued the suspect on foot.  As the suspect approached E 87th St and 435 Hwy, officers observed the suspect to have a gun.  There was an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and the officers.  No officers were injured by gunfire nor was the suspect.

The suspect, an adult male, was taken into custody.

EMS responded to the scene and declared the victim at the hotel deceased.

Homicide detectives have responded.  As well as crime scene personnel.  Because no one was struck, KCPD will be investigating the officer involved shooting as well as the homicide.  They will be processing the scene to recover any evidence and speaking to witnesses.

Anyone with information in regard to the homicide or OIS is asked to call detectives at 816-234-5043. Or if you wish to remain anonymous you can do so by calling the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
