Assault leads to shooting at Avenue convenience store
Thursday afternoon at approximately 2:30pm, Kansas City MO Police Officers were dispatched to the 7-11 store at 1701 Independence Blvd on a reported shooting call. Upon arrival officers located a victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital where they were listed in critical but stable condition.
Lee's Summit Police investigating assault on officer by student during fight after school assembly
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Lee's Summit police sergeant suffered minor injuries Friday afternoon as he broke up a fight between students at Lee's Summit North High School. A police department news release states the sergeant was filling in for the School Resource Officer. The fight broke out about 2:25 p.m.

Woman who tried to escape Leavenworth County Justice Center submits pleas
LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (KCTV) - A woman who tried to escape the Leavenworth County Justice Center has pleaded "no contest" to the charges filed against her. According to Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson, 33-year-old Sarah Cape of Lansing was arrested on April 26 of last year and later charged with attempted aggravated escape from custody.
Kansas officer injured when suspect tries to escape custody
LEAVENWORTH, Kan. - A Leavenworth jail employee is recovering after being injured when a suspect tried to escape custody. Sarah Cape, 33, of Lansing, Kansas, was arrested on drug charges at a Leavenworth County motel last month. According to court documents jail employees moved Cape from the Leavenworth County Justice Center when she tried to escape.

Victim identified in Independence house explosion, suspected arson
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The Independence Police Department has identified the man killed in a house explosion earlier this week that is also being investigated as an arson. The Independence Fire Department responded to the fire just before 7 p.m. Monday, April 24, near North Sioux Avenue and East Fifth Terrace North.
Man dies in Independence house fire, 'fatal arson investigation' underway
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - UPDATE: On April 28, the person who died in was identified as Justin C. Brown, a 27-year-old from Independence. Sgt. John Syme also described what took place Monday as an "explosion and house fire." The investigation is ongoing. Previous coverage is below.
