Insider: Likely STL Local Control Takeover Impacts Kansas City

Let's start with a pet peeve . . .

So-called "local control" of police hinges on yet another false narrative. Kansas City has "local control" of the police given that mayor is an elected official and occupies a space on the police board. Moreover, all of the members of the police board are, in fact, Kansas City residents.

There are all kinds of lies about "local control" that the public believes without even a modicum of fact checking.

Some of the proponents of a COUNCIL TAKEOVER OF KCPD have even attempted to make a historically invalid comparison to the slave trade.

It's all kinda sad, really when most Kansas City residents know that Missouri state administration of the police board was a check & balance ENACTED BY KCMO RESIDENTS to protect against the Pendergast mob. This is an iconic part of local history that pundits would erase in order to push forward their agenda.

But the past is merely prologue . . . Here's a peek at what's happening now . . .

INSIDERS TELL TKC . . . MISSOURI GOP TAKING BACK STL "LOCAL CONTROL" OF POLICE IS NOT ONLY LIKELY BUT INTENDED AS A BIT OF A FLEX AGAINST KANSAS CITY AS WELL!!!

The FOP is behind this power move that won't be that hard to accomplish . . .

Again, the Missouri State GOP super-majority already has the votes and early word is that the Governor will sign off on the vote.

Big picture . . .

The power move should stall local politicking for KCMO "local control" for at least another decade.

In the meantime, what we've seen from STL local control is a dramatic spike in murder, rampant violence and no real solution for their problems provided by this political gambit.

Here's more perspective . . .

"Legislation would penalize and ‘forever disqualify’ the St. Louis mayor or any city officer if they tried to ‘hinder’ work of the new governor-appointed board of police commissioners."

Kansas City is the only major city in the country where the city's elected leaders don't control the local police department - a state-appointed police board does. Up until 2013, St. Louis was in the same boat. However, the city gained local control of its police department after a 2012 statewide referendum.
