Sorry, the headline question implies that anyone ever trusted him in the first place.
Fact is . . .
The City Manager has been unpopular throughout his tenure and only the fickle support of Mayor Q is keeping him around. Most council members dislike him and, for better & worse, his office makes a convenient punching bag for so many unpopular decisions and deferred maintenance of crumbling Kansas City infrastructure.
And all of THAT doesn't even include the myriad of gossip targeting the dude from 12th & Oak colleagues who keep pretty good track of his late nights and new friends.
Nevertheless . . .
Legendary Kansas City newsman JimmyC recently considered recent discussion and makes an apt analogy which considers recent news about tall tales from political denizens . . . Check-it . . .
