Our snarky tradition is actually becoming a real life bit of bloggy lore given that we have enjoyed more than a few suggestions for this year's list.
To wit . . .
CHECK 2022 TKC TURKEY AWARDS HONORING ALL MANNER OF KANSAS CITY METRO FAIL!!!
The competition was tough but these honorees stood above the rest . . . Check-it . . .
Kansas City Mayor Q's Defund The Police Strategy
Losing big on Missouri Amendment 4 was only part of his politico's problems fighting against police supporters. Most Democratic Party leadership want to avoid being hit with the "defund" label but it's far too easy for critics to foist the phrase upon Mayor Q.
Now . . .Threats of police funding lawsuits persist and continue to thwart cooperation with law enforcement as the KCMO homicide count in climbs to historic levels.
COVID Mask Mandates
History won't look back kindly on these rules that might not have kept anyone safe if only because the politics of COVID dominated the discussion. Moreover, the mandatory face coverings unmasked deep divisions and intensified debate rather than inspiring people to think about public health. There are still people who wear masks and that's their prerogative but dress code orders now seem like a painful memory of pandemic policy gone horribly wrong.
Eric Greitens
This Missouri saga of a disgraced governor might finally be finished but only after the dude's dirty laundry was, once again, broadcast for voters across the Show-Me State.
The "high-point" of his campaign hinged on imaginary home invasion that earned keyboard warrior love but ultimately chased away voters.
Like it or not, this turkey might actually be done.
Amanda Adkins
She gave it her best shot but a blowout reveals that DEMOGRAPHICS ARE NOT DESTINY.
And/or . . . The middle-class white ladies of Johnson County remain an unsolvable mystery for Kansas Republicans.
Kansas City Star Prez Mike Fannin
In the end . . . People won't remember his DUI charges . . . But they might think about the leader of a formerly iconic newspaper apologizing for the institution's "legacy" as subscriptions and ad revenue declined sharply.
Tech trouble is mainly to blame for the demise of this former local power player and his dead-tree employer but the axiom "Get Woke, Go Broke" also comes to mind.
Former Royals Honcho Dayton Moore
He's now serving as a "special advisor" to the Texas Rangers but his tenure in KC proved that the journey from first to worst is quicker than most would have imagined.
City Manager Brian Platt
This upstart bureaucrat was never well-liked but now the ladies of city council seem to want to include him as part of an upcoming house cleaning. There are a lot of reasons for the antipathy BUT more than anything else the manager's tendency to amass power seems to ruffle the feathers of his council bosses.
Manifest Destiny Of Kansas City Bike Lanes
Let's make it plain . . .
KANSAS CITY BIKE LANES HAVE OFFICIALLY GONE OUT OF STYLE!!!
What was once a "green" effort to inspire community and sustainable transit is now nothing more than an elitist imposition on neighbors from hipsters who only communicate with the public by way of mean tweet.
Bike Supremacy ruined bike lanes and now small biz & urban leaders are becoming increasingly outspoken in their opposition to the unproven strategy that rarely partners with stakeholders before building one monstrosity after the next.
And so . . .
We humbly offer our traditional TKC invitation to readers . . .
