The rumor resurfaced over the weekend again . . . As many locals were shocked by national reporting of a "Missouri sex dungeon" and all manner of hyperbole.

This morning we noted conservative talker Pete Mundo doing his very best to shut down the chatter amid questionable online reporting . . . On Sunday, TKC even noticed Huff Post attempting to reignite the serial killer narrative. 

Here's what might be the definitive statement on the topic for now . . .

By activating the Clay County Investigative Squad Task Force, officers from multiple organizations within Clay County will work the case. There are also members of the Clay County Prosecutor's Office involved.

The task force says it spent time checking on rumors about a link between the Haslett case and a possible serial killer.

"We have checked with law enforcement agencies in the Kansas City metropolitan area and there are no current missing persons reports that correspond with the evidence examined so far in this investigation," the task force said in a statement.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - An Excelsior Springs man faces multiple felony charges after a woman said she escaped his basement while bound with duct tape and wearing a metal collar. Timothy Haslett, Jr. is charged with rape, kidnapping and second-degree assault. His arraignment is set in Clay County for 1:30 p.m.


Police defend missing persons investigations as community activists raise concerns

The Kansas City Police Department is defending its missing person investigations after community activists told KMBC 9 Investigates that they are concerned about women being targeted.This comes after one woman was kidnapped and later rescued in Excelsior Springs. Timothy Haslett Jr.
