Kansas City Council Lady Melissa Robinson Challenges Mayor Q?!?

Once again we notice a controversial council lady stepping to the forefront and leading the urban discourse in Kansas City.

More to the point . . .

IF COUNCIL MEMBER MELISSA ROBINSON WANTS TO BE MAYOR, NOW IS HER ONLY CHANCE THIS DECADE!!!

In fact, here's why it's now or never for her . . . And why we think she might be interested . . .

We didn't even want to write this post until we noticed that she has $16K in the bank for her upcoming campaign and that's way more than she needs. Also . . . A $1K donation from a trash company reveals that she PROBABLY knows where to find more cash.

As of late . . . We've noticed a lot more love from the newspaper for this local politico. 

Even better . . .

As the NYT hypes the new KC Tenants political outfit, council lady Robinson seems to be one of their early favorites . . . And she's the only real contender who has openly aligned with this group.

These are all upbeat reasons to power a real challenge to the heavily funded Mayor . . .

Here's a motivator that's not so nice . . . 

Dr. Melissa Patterson Hazley has quickly become the new Kansas City East side political favorite & rising star.

And so . . .

There likely can be only one Melissa in KCMO politics . . . Council lady Robinson is about to become Melissa "the lesser" in the eyes of her colleagues and constituents. 

Even better . . .

Behind the scenes . . .

Insiders tell TKC that activists are encouraging the Council Lady to be more aggressive and take on an already unpopular Mayor. 

Another look at her campaign finance reporting shows Lora from More2 offering a modest bit of financial support and a signal that more activist help has aligned with Melissa Robinson. 

Real talk . . .

There is no Black vote without Black women . . . Black women are the backbone of this powerful constituency, they dominate organizing and mobilization . . . In heavily Democratic Party dominated areas, look closely and notice that highly educated, motivated and exceptional Black women are doing a great deal of the heavy lifting. 

This is something that former Council lady Alissia Canady has already demonstrated and behind the scenes it's part of the very serious activist conversation urging a shakeup up in the local political status quo.

Mind you . . .

KC conservatives are screwed in this decision because the Council Lady is a fierce advocate of local (city hall) police control and challenges to law enforcement. 

However . . .

What we like about the council lady is that, for all her faults, SHE SEEMS GENUINELY CONNECTED TO KANSAS CITY NEIGHBORHOODS in a way that Mayor Q is not  . . . And that might be enough to garner support or at least make her the lesser of two evils . . . On this Halloween night . . .That's about as good as it gets.
