Meet Kansas City’s First African-American Female Mayor?!?

As election season heats up, insiders were kind enough to share a glimpse of Kansas City's future before it takes hold. 

Here's the deal . . . 

BEHIND THE SCENES KANSAS CITY POWER PLAYERS HAVE ANOINTED DR. MELISSA PATTERSON HAZLEY AS THIS COWTOWN'S NEXT MAYOR!!!

We're going to try to make it plain because there are a few moving parts to this story . . .

First of all, who is she?!?!

Dr. Melissa Patterson Hazley is an Educational Psychologist, a senior researcher with the UMKC Institute for Human Development and a native Kansas Citian. She also served as the Chair of the Central City Economic Development Sales Tax Board, which is a 1/8 cent sales tax fund dedicated to economic development in Kansas City’s urban core. 

It's also worth noting her legacy . . . She's a descendant of KCMO icon Charles Hazley who served as a councilman from 1971 to 1991.

In what is the worst kept secret in all of local politics . . . She's campaigning hard amid an increasingly crowded 3rd District At-Large contest. 

A quick breakdown . . .  

We're all familiar with a ridiculous poking incident . . . But voters should also understand . . .

Freedom, Inc. has all but declared political war on incumbent 3rd District At-Large Councilman Brandon Ellington. Even worse, Mayor Q isn't fond of his colleague who he feels should/but doesn't provide (former) home district support. 

Meanwhile . . .

Local media personality Darron Story has a lot of friends and he has garnered the early support of former Mayor Sly James but after a year of campaigning . . . People mostly know him as a pleasant voice on the radio. 

Even further behind the scenes . . . Yes, we've heard about a potential Northeast candidate who may very well SHOCK & FRUSTRATE his entrenched political rivals and we'll talk about that at some point but this post belongs to the future. 

Now . . . 

The civic elite have decided that Dr. Hazley is their future favorite and whilst her political career might be groundbreaking . . . It also serves to protect that status quo. 

Accordingly . . . 

Insiders noticed Dr. Hazley EARNESTLY campaigning at Congressman Cleaver's recent BBQ wherein she secured a surprising number of commitments and connections.

But even better than political favors . . . 

Here's the trump card that Dr. Michelle Patterson Hazley holds . . .

She is a favorite of Bridgette Williams - The Heavy Constructors boss who controls more campaign cash than ANYBODY in Kansas City.

And so . . .

Here's how things will probably might work themselves out . . . 

Dr. Hazley will meet with overwhelming support and love from the the local civic set and mainstream media. 

She will serve one term on council.

And as Mayor Q is termed out . . . Following in his footsteps . . . 

Dr. Melissa Patterson Hazley ASCENDS to her place in Kansas City history as this town's first African-American Mayor.

Even better . . .

The Heavies control taxpayer purse strings for another 8 years at 12th & Oak and our progressive friends can sleep better having helped achieved a KCMO milestone without any regard for the shaky finances and infrastructure of this community.  

Again, as usual, the Northeast could provide a stumbling block here . . .

Also . . .

Dr. Hazley has impressive qualifications and we hear she's a very nice person . . . But academics rarely make good big city politicians. 

She's already engaged in municipal life so it's possible that she has garnered valuable experience dealing with the murky world of local politics . . . Then again . . . Insiders fear that she might suffer from an inability to cope with criticism and challenges that always come with work as an elected official. 

Nevertheless . . . 

The local elite have seemingly ordained Dr. Melissa Patterson Hazley as a new leader of Kansas City and their money and favor is now hers to lose.
