KCPD GUILTY!!!

Today is history for Kansas City.

Activists have noted . . .

"This is the first time in the over 150 year history of Kansas City that a white cop is on trial for the murder of a Black person."

Actually, the case considered involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action charges but the guilty verdict is surprising nevertheless.

Here's the best summary we could find for right now . . .

Before issuing his verdict, Judge J. Dale Youngs said DeValkenaere and his partner had no probable cause to be in Lamb's garage, and did not have a search warrant or evidence to obtain a search warrant. Youngs also noted that Lamb had an expectation of privacy on his property and garage.

Youngs also determined that prosecutors met their burden of proof that DeValkenaere was not acting in self defense, or in the defense of his partner at the time he shot and killed Lamb on Dec. 13, 2019.

UPDATE

KCPD Statement on verdict . . .

"Every officer involved shooting is difficult not only for the members in the community, but also the members of the police department.  We acknowledge the Court’s decision."

For those who might celebrate this verdict . . .

Let's not forget about Kansas City's current police staffing crisis and rising violent crime which many attribute to toxic rhetoric targeting law enforcement.

For those who lament the decision . . .

Before the trial many local conservatives argued that activists threatening riots in event of a not guilty decision should accept the verdict. That sentiment still holds true.

In the end, right or wrong, the people of Kansas City must attempt to live with one another in peace following this outcome.
