In his rise to power there were quite a few East side African-American matriarchs with a great deal of credibility who constantly sang the praises of then councilman Quinton Lucas. They admired his dedication to his own mother, his educational achievement and his soft spoken confidence. Inner city voters believed he would serve as an inspiration for the community and provide a transition in leadership from the civil rights era and into the future.
After a year in office rife with plague, protest, economic devastation and a continually rising homicide count . . . Urban core voters don't seem as hopeful about the tenure of Mayor Q.
Accordingly, Mayor Q's relationship with his base of support on the East side might soon become even more "complex" given his living arrangements that seem to be taking him outside of the district where he successfully launched his political career.
