This morning KCPD updated their daily homicide tracker to reveal 8 killings so far this year compared with 14 at this time last year.
It doesn't seem like it but the 42.86% decline is a very real sign of progress.
Of course skeptics might tell us that this is merely an anomaly given that there hasn't been any significant anti-crime plan shared with the public.
Nevertheless, fewer people killed on local streets is a good thing.
That doesn't mean that KC's historic violence problem is solved which should be obvious from this quick collection of metro crime links featuring allegations, police action and a vast array of property crime.

Travon M. Williams is charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping in the Jan. 12 shooting death of Linda Gantt, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker. Police responded to reports of gunfire in the 3600 block of Olive. Police found Gantt with gunshot wounds in a vehicle near 45th and Prospect Avenue, and she was later pronounced dead.
