Local media was desperate for a Saturday story and so they swarmed after news of a deadly officer-involved shooting.
For better or worse . . .
GIVEN RECENT PROTESTS & RIOTS, KCPD AND POLITICS WERE NERVOUS ABOUT PUBLIC REACTION AFTER A DEADLY POLICE SHOOTING!!! BUT THE REALITY IS THAT NOBODY IS GOING TO RIOT OVER COPS KILLING A WHITE DUDE IN THE MIDST OF A HIGH SPEED CHASE AND CARJACKING!!!
The sitch right now:
"Officers were called to the area to investigate a possible armed carjacking. When they arrived on scene, a driver fled going northbound. Officers pursued the driver a short distance before they crashed at 23rd and Lister. The general area is east of Interstate 70 on 23rd Street, just east of Ashland Square Park."
"Police say a suspect reportedly was armed with a gun and was shot by a police officer."
Even more interestingly . . .
"Mayor Quinton Lucas released a statement a few hours after the shooting, and said a white man died."
Here's his note in full . . .
“We have learned of an officer-involved shooting that occurred this afternoon near 23rd and Lister. The victim is an adult white male. I called an emergency Board of Police Commissioners meeting roughly one week ago to review and immediately enact police oversight policies to help build community trust and ensure transparency. One of those measures requires an outside enforcement agency to investigate any officer-involved shooting that occurs in Kansas City. This afternoon I have spoken with Kansas City Police Chief Rick Smith and Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker. Pursuant to our new board policy, the Missouri Highway Patrol is now on the scene to handle the investigation into this incident, rather than the Kansas City Police Department, and will be communicating with the public and press in connection with this incident.”
And this, more than any other local news today, might prove that we're not living in a "post-racial" society after all despite the hopes of politicos and protesters.

Good public relations. Have the mayor do your legwork.
DeleteChances of local control. Nil.
ReplyDeleteLet the rioting begin there was a black guy shot in Atlanta and another one hung somewhere. Come on out guys you know what you have to do. Oh I forgot everyone is up in Seattle living in utopia with no food and full porta potties.
FAKE NEWS! FAKE NEWS!!
ReplyDeletePolice ONLY kill COMPLETELY INNOCENT BLACK MEN,
and do so ONLY because of their institutionalized RACISM!
FAKE NEWS!
^^^^ Stay in the trailer Cletus. Not safe for you.
ReplyDeleteYou've been cancelled.
Hey I bet it will be safe tonight though! For Cletus or anyone. Maybe because a thug tantrum mob won't be looting in media-driven hysteria.
DeleteHoly shit what fucked up times that mayor has to calm the negros and SJWs with a statement that there is no need to root because it was only a white man killed, but good thing the mayor, the negros and SJWs don't see color.
ReplyDeleteWas the Officer White or Black?
ReplyDeleteThis white guy who highjacked a car, put people at risk, and pulled a gun on the police was just a common criminal and thug who opted for self-destructive behavior.
ReplyDeleteAnd lost.
Had he been black, the narrative would have been that he stole the car so that he could drive to the library to study for his SATs and the "gun" that he had was really just a cell phone.
By the way, he was just turning his life around.
Then, cue the usual suspect activists and the mob.
TV coverage and selfies for everyone!
And everyone involved should resign.
What a tiresome joke.
^^^ If black the chorus of "celebrate good times come on" will be reverberating through midtown tonight.
ReplyDeleteit's good to hw every killing investigated by outsiders.
ReplyDeletepeople are suspicious that police are trigger-happy.
The only time it’s permissible to mention the perps race. He’s white.
ReplyDeleteDid Trump release a statement or tweet from the WH bunker?
ReplyDeleteSo the MSHP must be getting a budget increase to cover this extra work. It needs to be taken from the city budget.
ReplyDeleteThe general area is a huge shithole. Best to steer clear, especially if you're white. The smell takes awhile to wash out.
ReplyDeleteIf it’s a white guy why is Petersucker there? She hates white people so much that she sends them to prison for life for stealing bubble gum.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe she was just plain shocked that whitey did something wrong and had to see for herself!
By the way, some lady got shot down at the plaza.... and so it begins

Delete"Black Lives Matter" isn't the appropriate nor most effective for helping make for change and correction of the problem. I have no problem emphasizing or recognizing that black people are victims of police brutality, abuse, and discrimination, as well as that by society in general. But I firmly believe and know that these problems aren't exclusive to black people. I support the movement, but not its name or the focus on it as if black people are the only victims. While race is a huge correlation, with black people being most affected, the affected group transcends race and is characterized by traits that transcend race and make for a distinct group. Biological phenotype relating to influence of testosterone in one's makeup and personality combined with socioeconomic class are what distinguish the group, not race. Making the issue race-specific fails the opportunity to unite a distinct group and create cohesion that transcends race. This also leaves a portion of the victims left out, which is absolutely wrong and disgusting. This hurts everyone affected, including black people, by not having a more united and therefore larger uprising to make for change. The lack of recognition or emphasis of the characteristics that are discriminated against, which is far more than just race, also fails everyone from better understanding the problem. That said, as far as the destructive and violent rioters. They were and are necessary to make for change. The peaceful protesters alone would not have been a voice screaming loud enough from the unheard. Period. Yes, some of then destructive, violent protesters don't even know fully what they are in it for and some are opportunistically taking advantage and using the issue for a stimulating, chaotic, and perverse form of fun, but they are necessary! One must understand their energy is coming from somewhere and that everything happens for a reason. As for innocent cops and others being killed or hurt - there will be casualties in any war. Also, the innocent cops especially, aren't exactly innocent. They knew what was going on but weren't speaking up for fear of intimidation, (anti)social ostracizing, or worst of all, an honor code. This is a systemic problem within police culture, including in formal code and policy, and isn't really different from the same characteristics in gang culture or that of "snitches get stitches". I believe the term for this is dyssocial sociopathy, or at least tendencies thereof. I must also say I actually incorrectly held our police to higher esteem even though recognizing that there's a huge problem. I am surprised to see just how severe and widespread the problem is, as demonstrated by the bad officers protesting the protesters with even more police brutality and abuse, all while in the public view more than ever! But that is good, because they are showing their true colors, validating the movement to those who literally were ignorant and unaware of the extent of the problem, and making it a lot easier to weed out the bad cops. Change is happening! Officers are being fired or otherwise facing consequences left and right. They've escalated to abusing and using excessive force on middle class white people, including reporters, nurses and other medical workers, college students, innocent bystanders, and even other LEO's and politicians they didn't realize were! All that said, what I am most impressed with is the genuinely good cops speaking out. That is something I've never seen before. It's amazing. And I do not mean the false panderers, be clear on that.
ReplyDeleteLess is more old chap
DeleteIt's ok when they kill white guys. WLDM
ReplyDeleteYou go son....... right on.
ReplyDeleteIn the U.S., nine unarmed black men were shot by police officers, while 20 unarmed white men were shot in 2019. Unarmed doesn't necessarily mean they weren't trying to take the officer's gun, or choke or beat them, so these figures might be skewed a bit. Yet, contrast those figures with about 7,000 black men killed in the U.S. by other black men. One category of deaths brings a lot of money to the Kaepernick, NACCP, BLM and other groups when it occurs, and the other category doesn't. Like most things in life, follow the money.
ReplyDeletedid you see the atlanta wendy's shooting?
ReplyDeleteWLM ! No Justice No Peace !
ReplyDeleteI love my city, we need to stop the killing. By EVERYONE!
ReplyDeleteSince its inception, I have maintained that the Black Lives Matter movement was at least as important to white folks. Of course it is a horrible indication of systemic racism that a higher proportion of black men and women -- armed or not -- are killed by the police. But -- in absolute numbers -- far more white folks are killed by those sworn to protect and serve. Look at that Albers kid in Overland Park: Whiter than him you cannot get! Dead because the gun was there.
ReplyDeleteOf course, racism exacerbates the overuse of force problem. But the macho militarization of our police and the overuse of force is also exacerbated by the over-use and misuse of police. Doe we really need to use 911 to summon an armed officer to wake up a dozing customer in the take-out lane? Or need armed officers to man the speed trap on Ward Parkway? Does anyone rationally expect a shootout over 47 in a 35? Does it EVER make sense to send armed response to a threatened suicide? DUH! Ask the Albers family.
What most DEFUND THE POLICE demands actually are is a call to SMART FUND the totality of policing -- because less force and threat of force is often a good thing. It is like the old theatrical rule that if you hang a shotgun over the mantle in Act One, you must use it by Act Three. Fewer armed responders in Act One can mean fewer deaths in Act Three.
Hey, Phil. Did you just volunteer to respond to all those calls that don't require an armed officer? Just asking! Who is going to do it? Where is the giant work force that will handle those calls? Better get them lined up so armed police don't have to respond. Let us know when the plan is set.
