Today KCPD and the Jackson County Prosecutor's office shared reporting of massive arrests over the weekend amid protest/rioting following the police killing of George Floyd.

Four persons charged in thefts from Plaza stores on Saturday night

Four Kansas City residents have been charged in connection with thefts from Plaza stores during protests there on Saturday night, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.

Suspects face charges of burglary and stealing . . .

According to court records filed Sunday, one defendant was observed inside the store Anthropologie on the Plaza, along with others. Police officers observed a broken window and when the was searched by police they found more than $500 in clothing stuffed inside his pants. Another defendant was observed near the North Face store and dropped clothing, valued at hundreds of dollars. The front window of the store was broken out. Another Defendant was observed by police to be assisting the the first suspect in an alley behind the Footlocker store on the Plaza. They were observed placing items from the store into the vehicle, including basketball jerseys and Nike shoes.

Prosecutors requested $10,000/10 percent bond, $15,000/10 percent, and a $5,000 ROR bond . . .

KMBC: Police said officers made five arrests Friday, 83 on Saturday and 63 on Sunday. Police also said the majority of the damage sustained during the protests was to buildings, businesses and vehicles around the Plaza area.

KSHB: The three days of protests, which are aimed are creating police and criminal justice reform in the wake of George Floyd’s death at the hands of Minneapolis police last week, drew crowds as large as an estimated 2,000 people at times during the weekend.
