TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KCFD & CITY HALL SUSPEND CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS AS SIDE LETTER EXTENSION EMERGES!!!

A rare bit of public safety agreement at 12th & Oak is in the works.

Special thanks to KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS for evidence of this move . . .

KCFD & CITY HALL WORK TOWARD QUICKIE SIDE LETTER CONTRACT EXTENSION AMID CORONAVIRUS!!!

Given that KCFD is on the front lines of the pandemic, at first glance the increases for sick leave seem reasonable.

Still, because insiders read this blog daily and they can examine this contract more effectively . . .

CHECK THE LOCAL 42 SIDE LETTER WITH KCMO SENT OUR WAY FROM AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS FIRST!!!

Here's the intro language that gives a sense of the document overall . . .

WHEREAS, the City of Kansas City, Missouri (City) And No. 42 of the International Association Of Fire Fighters (Local 42 or Local) have currently suspended negotiations, due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus); and

WHEREAS, it is uncertain when negotiations may resume; and

WHEREAS, the advent of the Coronavirus has, and will likely for the foreseeable future, require a substantial commitment of the City’s human and financial resources; and

WHEREAS, the City And Local 42 agree and recognize that it is in their mutual interest and the interest of the Citizens and Taxpayers to suspend further negotiations, at this time, and to extend the current collective bargaining agreement through April 30, 2021 . . .

Accordingly . . .

This becomes more important as an upcoming Fire Safety Sales Tax election was recently delayed and might now have a tougher time earning voter approval given the recent economic downturn.

Developing. . .

  1. Overall good news for city. Don't forget this is also about ambulance service and how to make sure it keeps running when more people need it.

  2. The politics of the FD suck but that doesn't make me any less appreciative of the first responders and brave men and women of the KCFD who put their life on the line for KC every day.

  3. Last time they delayed negotiations they got two 5% raises the following year so keep an eye out for that trick

  4. Don't forget us brave men and women inmates who put up with this shit year in and year out.

  5. Doesn't matter what the voters think or want. The city can just throw it out at will if the voters reject their agenda.

  6. The unlimited accrual of vacation/sick hours is considered a liability on the balance sheet of any organization, and for this reason is usually limited to a reasonable level of accrual (use it or lose it). The average private company limits accrual to around 120 hours. The letter agreement limits it to 4,000 hours. It's no wonder people get upset about public sector benefits, almost two years of salary upon seperation paid for by the taxpayers.

  7. Just vote NO on increased fire safety sales tax.

  8. They were counting on the sales tax election being successful and the results adding to the city budget.
No, even if the tax passes, the amount will barely make even a small dent in the huge budget hole.
Kooks like even some of the KCMO staff is going to have to suck it up this time.
Instead of the residents getting the short end of the stick EVERY TIME.

  9. Firemen make up for their short dicks with excessive pay, large pick-up trucks, and muscle flexing.
