We talked a bit about this bold municipal pledge last night and in the light of day it deserves even more examination.
Remember that this move comes a little more than a month after Kansas City gave away tens of millions of bucks to Waddell & Reed in a move that sparked outcry throughout the metro.
In a recent social media post, Mayor Quinton Lucas proclaims:
"The Kansas City Council just passed our Border War truce ordinance -- preventing businesses from taking advantage of economic incentives by hopping back and forth across state line for tax breaks. Now, we're already turning our attention to the next steps we can take to ensure equity and opportunity throughout our region.
"I just announced, with Kansas City, Kansas Mayor David Alvey and Olathe, Kansas Mayor Michael Copeland, the creation of the Regional Committee on Economic Mobility to bring development to areas that have historically suffered from underinvestment.
"This Regional Committee on Economic Mobility has the potential to fundamentally change how the Kansas City region approaches the big issues facing our communities and I look forward to working closely with my colleagues on both sides of the state line to advance opportunity for all."
You decide . . .
I hope this includes the money for the new stadium that KC is going to have to pony up.
ReplyDeleteAnd the airport.
Basically, he just said NO to more KC jobs. Good luck with that.
More lies
ReplyDeleteHahahaha the more things change the more they remain the same
ReplyDeleteTeam Q is now cranking up the bullshit to 11 on the volume dial.
ReplyDeleteThat so called "Border War" truce ordinance isn't worth the paper it was written on.
ReplyDeleteBoth sides of the state line need to stop giving charity to larger companies while ignoring the residents and small mom and pop places of business that were what built this metro area.
^^Isn't the price is Right on? Why are you here?

ReplyDeleteMaybe it's stupidity, but you just gotta jump into things and prove without a doubt, it’s stupidity.
^^^Not maybe. It is stupidity if you're involved.
ReplyDeleteUntil I hear from Kathryn Shields I haven't heard from the mayor.

ReplyDeleteWaddell & Reed is on their third jump across the border. So why did Mayor Selfie decide now to not pay for border jumping? He already paid them. The horses have left the barn Mayor. You can leave the door open.
