Special thanks to BEST, BRIGHTEST AND MOST KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS for sending us this social media note . . .
"There is never a good time to close a restaurant, but due to the wind down of the bankruptcy estate, Houlihan’s Fairway has closed effective today.
"Management is doing everything possible to minimize the impact to affected team members by working to place them at different continuing locations and reaching out to local restaurant companies."
"On behalf of the entire team, thank you for your support and friendship over the years. We do hope to see you at one of our other Kansas City locations."
Developing . . .
This place was actually pretty decent at one time. Sign of the future for 2020.

Kansas. Not Kansas City. Close, though.

ReplyDeleteYeah.
They put it on Facebook.
Hours ago.
And yet you commented about here. Weird. I wonder why you don't allow any criticism on your posts.
DeleteBum.
Houston's once owned that joint and called it the Fairway Grill. The food was incredibly good. I saw Don Knotts, George Brett, Henry Bloch, and other notables eat there. Henry & his sourpuss wife hated the live jazz and always asked to be seated at the farthest table away from the band. George Brett would always send up one or two of his boys to put money in our tip jar / and of course, we'd play "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" for him.
ReplyDeleteThen shortly after 911, Houlihan's took over and started peddling their deep-fried-glop......got rid of live music. The place was never the same after that.
Looks like Mission Hills/Fairway/ Westwood could not keep that place full. I think Uber is helping people travel a little further, to hip destination spots. Why go to a nice neighborhood place, get 2 glasses of wine, and get lit up by a Fairway cop on your 12 block drive home. Get in the Uber and go have some quail eggs in the crossroads and run into other cool people.
ReplyDeleteNow what we need is some Buttfuckers restaurants. One on every corner of KCMO.
ReplyDelete^^^Sorry Nancy, you’ll just have to stick to Bob Evans.
ReplyDeleteFirst Strouds and now Houlihans... just where are the Fairway swells gonna go for their fine dining?
ReplyDeleteHead to the Crossroads and get ready to dodge the scary-looking homeless panhandling for money and maybe a few bullets. No thanks.
ReplyDeleteHoulihan's has sucked for about two decades. Very little food for the money. Portions got smaller and smaller, as if they thought you should pay for the lame atmosphere and their pretentious presence.
Hard to keep going with their ripoff menu
ReplyDeleteDamn this makes me sad. I loved that Houlihans. Remember when it moved from the plaza to fairway years ago. They still have the best wings in the city and their stuffed chicken breast is phenomenal
