TKC FACT CHECK: KANSAS CITY MAYOR QUINTON LUCAS WILL RUIN HIS POLITICAL CAREER IF HE LOSES THE ROYALS!!!
Tough talk from the 29th floor obscures a Kansas City fact of life for just about every elected official in this town . . .
KANSAS CITY MAYOR QUINTON LUCAS MUST DO WHATEVER THE ROYALS ASK OR RISK ANY HOPE OF HIGHER OFFICE!!!
There isn't a politico more popular than the sports teams even with the 3rd District voting bloc that moves further East to Grandview & Lee's Summit every day.
Another truism . . .
JOHNSON COUNTY WILL NEVER PAY FOR KCMO RESOURCES AGAIN!!!
The more interesting side of that axiom is that Royals might move to JoCo . .. See the first point on that topic that, again, would spell doom for newbie Mayor Q.
Nevertheless, despite these truisms, here's a story that imagines the new boss at City Hall is anything but a very well-paid, highly skilled grocery store clerk for people with real power.

KMBZ: Mayor skeptical about downtown Kansas City stadium talk
Money line . . .
Mayor Lucas has not totally ruled out the possibility of a downtown stadium. He says he’s willing to talk with the new owners about other financing options, such as a bi-state plan.
"I'd like to hear from the ownership group what type of money they're putting in, and frankly from the the entire region, the type of investment that I think we're going to make region wide," Lucas said.
You decide . . .
Better title:
ReplyDeleteDo as told Quinton.
Lucas has been mayor for a little over a month and he's already concerned about what he's going to run for next?
ReplyDeleteIt never changes with these KCMO make-believe politico celebrities.
Fix the streets.
Reduce the homicide rate.
Get a handle on the water department.
Do your job.
The number one consideration for all politicians is re-electability. They will say/do anything to assure the next term in office.
ReplyDelete^^and you will say or do anything to abate the loneliness.
ReplyDelete^^ You don't have to. Gramps is coming over this afternoon without his teeth. Back to the basement.
ReplyDeleteExactly. We hold the political class in such high regard -- look at all the infrastructure we name after them. The 'Margret Long' interchange on K7 in KCK for example. Who the hell was she?? Who cares?? If you have to name a highway overpass, name it after some Lance Corporal nobody has heard of that died in Afghanistan. ES&D Margret Long, wherever you are.
ReplyDeleteI hope they move to Los Vegas soon.
ReplyDelete^^and yet they never, ever will. Weird.
ReplyDelete1:09 and you know this how??? Weird.
ReplyDeleteThey will not be moving to Los Vegas because there is no city by that name.
ReplyDeleteThe entire region is going to make an investment? That idea originated where? A gay bar in Lawrence?
ReplyDeleteThere's no way in shit JoCo helps pay unless it's actually in JoCo
ReplyDeleteTeam's aren't relocating. The A's have been looking to move for year and so have the Rays and they're both in terrible situations
Quinton. Every time I think of our mayor I think of this cartoon. Too hilarious.

The Las,Vegas ROYALS, IT CAN BE A SELLOUT MOST GAMES .YOU have Residence and Tourists .and the Games With California teams are driving distance. Many California Residence make the trip to Las Vegas a,number of times a year.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry KANSAS CITY WE CAN GET THE As,Back. Oakland is a Rat,Hole .
ReplyDeleteThe downtown real estate interests want a team there much more than the Royals want to move.
ReplyDeleteLose the Royals? Where would they go?
ReplyDeleteIf there were cities clamoring for teams, MLB would expand and award new teams. League wide attendance is down and the demand just isn't there.
Oakland and Tampa Bay have the 2 worst stadiums now and are severely under performing in attendance. Ironically, both are playing in the playoffs tonight. If any team is going to move, it will one of those.
The real question is why do we need a brand new baseball stadium we put in almost 3 million dollars a couple years ago to rehab royal stadium we have the most beautiful stadium and all the baseball with a fountains.the real truth is a bunch of greedy people who own land downtown who want to sell it to the city as three times the money call greed and corruption and if L I guarantee you Mayor Lucas tries to push for a baseball stadium with a bi state it will end his political career.
ReplyDeleteIf you think there's any chance for a bi-state tax for a baseball stadium, or anything else, for that matter, all you have to do is watch the antics, incompetence, corruption, and outright illegality of both Jackson County and KCMO governments.
ReplyDeleteWho in their right minds would invest or even trust so much as a penny with these grifters?
Behavior has consequences and the elected folks in other counties and cities throughout the metro aren't as easily bamboozled as the pitiful voters and taxpayers in KCMO.
A pipe dream on steroids.
It's probably land that is owned by Morningstar Development AKA Morningstar church. Why not?
ReplyDeleteJohn Modest Miles is on the sports authority. Frank, and Forte are long time members.. We already know breaking the law in Kansas City means about as much as the border wall and immigration. Lining the pockets so he can pay his own property taxes for a change.
The Rays and A's are looking to move but so far no takers.
ReplyDeleteKauffman is one of the 10 best stadiums in Major League Baseball, in great shape, with 12 years left on the leases. The Royals aren’t going anywhere! And, JoCo feeloaders will never pay $1.5 Billion in taxpayer money for a baseball stadium. Get used to seeing the Royals at Kauffman for the next 25 years, at least. If you want a Downtown stadium, Jon Kopaken, pay for it yourself!!!!
