KANSAS CITY CONSEQUENCES: TEEN CHARGED AFTER ERIN LANGHOFER SHOT IN HEAD & KILLED DURING CROSSROADS FIRST FRIDAY FOOD TRUCK FIGHT!!!
During a solemn press conference this afternoon, authorities worked diligently to refocus attention regarding the threat of a horrific Kansas City tragedy into public information documenting the hard work behind the scenes of a constant crime fighting mission during this increasingly deadly Summer of 2019.
The action of two police offices was undoubtedly heroic and they made KCMO streets safer last night but only after a nightmarish scenario played out which should give every local party-goer a moment of pause.
Nevertheless . . .
The facts of last night's shooting contradict the feelings of those who are too focused on demographics.
The racial makeup of the Crossroads crowd is identified by many as the singular root cause of recent trouble (it's way more complicated than that) but those same keyboard warriors are silent or refuse to note the bravery in bringing the men to justice also comes from a diverse KCPD force.
Officer Allen and Officer Stubbs are the two officers being credited by the Kansas City Police Department in chasing down individuals involved in the disturbance that led to the shooting on 18th and Main.
And so, the local murder count continues but this tragic homicide of an innocent young woman in the prime of her life has drawn the attention of the nation and threatens to derail and destroy the "momentum" that millions worth of taxpayer cash and the efforts of many have paid dearly to achieve for this part of Kansas City.
Here's the narrative from the Prosecutor's office:
A KC teen charged in fatal shooting at First Friday event
An 18-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting on Friday evening near 18th and Main that took the life of an innocent bystander, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
According to court records filed today, about 10 p.m., Kansas City police responded on a call of shots fired in the area of 18th and Main Street. They found the female victim, Erin Langhofer, 25, of Overland Park, KS. She had been near food trucks on 18th Street and was not involved in any altercation prior to the gunfire. Officers began a foot pursuit with three males running from the scene. One of the males, who was ordered to stop running, dropped a handgun before lying on the ground. He identified himself . . . The 9 mm he dropped was later confirmed to have fired the 9 mm shell casings found near the scene of the shooting. The defendant told police detectives he was the only one who fired after he and others had been in a physical altercation near the food trucks.
Prosecutors have requested a bond of $500,000 cash.
