TKC MUST SEE!!! LAME DUCK KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY JAMES EXPLAINS EQUITY VIA SILLY INTERNETS MEME EXAMPLE!!!
In the midst of a crushing landslide defeat for his Pre-K initiative that was universally rejected by teachers, school administrators and voters, Mayor Sly James clearly references a popular online meme as his ideal for equity.
Check his standup quote on the topic at the recent Bloomberg Summit for Equality in NYC:
However . . .
MANY ONLINE DENIZENS HAVE A DIFFERENT TAKE ON THE POPULAR MEME MAYOR SLY REFERENCES!!!
Activists against income inequality see the struggle for equity differently:
Meanwhile, trolls get a bit gory in their criticism of social justice and equity:
Critics of "seductive socialism" tout capitalism in their hot take:
To the far left, others see the meme as an opportunity to argue for inclusion:
Finally, as debate against Prez Trump's Border Wall ramps up again, there's a widely touted version of the meme that stresses liberation:
Nevertheless . . .
It's strange to see lame duck mayor Sly James playing the social justice warrior after a tenure spent championing tax breaks for developers and misplaced priorities pushing the corporate agenda of the Greater Kansas City Chamber Of Commerce.
And so we throw it back to our blog community . . .
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT MAYOR SLY'S INTERNETS MEME VERSION OF EQUITY!?!?
It's a topic worth exploring in these last few weeks of the Mayor's tenure whilst he attempts to rewrite his legacy and once again convince Kansas City voters that he didn't spend most of his time working for the benefit of the local elite.
You decide . . .
Mayor Sly James isn't a socialist but he plays one on TV.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say he's not for socialism. The guy seems to love corporate welfare and other "incentives" for his friends.
DeleteIt's easy to be in favor of social programs when your supporters don't pay taxes.
ReplyDeleteKansas City's meme mayor. That seems about right.
ReplyDeleteI think Sly's heart is in the right place and if you really look at the Pre-K effort, it was how he started his first term. He always wanted to help schools but the effort isn't there. I saw something about an upcoming bond issue on here and that's what the KCPS wants to do. Sometimes there is no saving people but we're glad that people keep trying.
ReplyDeleteHe got that toy train and a few other legacy frou frous. The corny part of sly is, he plastered his mug. Everywhere anytime , he wanted to be a beloved public figure, mostly empty gestures like the ill fated slys rock the block, you gotta be realistic.
ReplyDeleteHe’s definitely made history in KCMO.....as the worst mayor ever.
ReplyDeleteIf Uncle Sly and City Hall could bottle and sell its hypocrisy, they could pay off the city's debt. In fact, its hypocrisy is only exceeded by its incompetence and criminality, which appear to be limitless.
ReplyDeleteThis is really disgusting and a new low for this blog. Again, I wouldn't have noticed this post if it wasn't for other people forwarding it my way. I have told them to stop because this post is not relevant and should be ignored by the voters of Kansas City. What are you trying to accomplish with this post? The term of Mayor Sly James has ended and kicking him while he is out of office does absolutely no good.
ReplyDeleteIf you look at it objectively the Mayor has been one of the best KC has ever seen. Because of him we have a streetcar, a new convention hotel and an airport on the way. TKC chooses skepticism and complaints about the "corporate agenda" but he is overlooking that these projects create jobs for workers across the metro. The Mayor's work will put thousands of people to work and there is simply no denying that.
And to all the people who might complain, I can only ask? What have you done? How have you improved Kansas City in the past 8 years? Mayor Sly James has helped to build up downtown and now only his critics want to twist the story and say that's a bad thing. The should simply show their gratitude for the progress that's underway and the momentum we have achieved under the watch of Mayor James.
^^^ I guess we know where you're coming from but that is just as one sided as anything I've seen about the mayor on this blog. Totally has blinders on and not thinking objectively at all.
DeleteChris, it's the mayor's job to improve things. It's the citizen's job to speak out when they see an incompetent clown like your boss doing nothing about the real issues of the city. Mayor Bullhorn's terrible legacy speaks for itself; like Nero he did nothing of importance while crises exploded.
DeleteYou're the shameless spokesperson of a grifter clown way past his sell-by date. Live with it.
"This is really disgusting and a new low for this blog."
DeleteCome back tomorrow.
^^"What have you done?"
ReplyDeleteCitizens pay their TAXES so Slie can spend time championing tax breaks for developers and misplaced priorities, such as the failed fair weather toy train, and pushing the corporate agenda of the Greater Kansas City Chamber Of Commerce.
This is actually Slies last attempt to try and remain relevant.
How about all three of those free loaders buy a fuckin ticket like everyone else.
ReplyDeleteThe 2018 bleaching of homeless meals pretty much sums up Mr. Clown Suits legacy.
ReplyDeletethe chamber of commerce is a bunch of unoriginal dolts that barely think, every city every time, weird.
ReplyDeleteHis final State of The City speech should have been branded as...
ReplyDeleteThe Triumph of Fraud
Little difference between Sly's hypocrisy and Obama and Clintons pretending to help poor people while advancing Wall Street and Globalist interests.
ReplyDeleteBig question is who will be worse, Jolie or Quinton?
In re go for KC claim about job growth, reality is downtown loop is hemorrhaging jobs. He has more access to the data than most and greater time to review it than most, so this claim is very deceitful.
ReplyDelete-radish
His successor to the throne is out picking up the trash.

With so much negativity on this blog I can see how many people were turned away from voting. But if you look at what the voters did this election you'll see that they chose Jolie Justus by a greater margin than anyone else. You don't need any more endorsement than what the voters have selected and they chose to go with someone who is recommended by mayor James. So it's obvious that Kansas City likes the momentum that we are achieving its only some of the readers of this blog who are the constant opposition and don't have a viable plan of their own. The mayor has done a remarkable job leading Kansas City and Jolie Justus will continue that work and keep up that momentum.
ReplyDeleteBarely anyone votes, Chris. Don't be so fast to claim victory among the apathetic. If there was real turnout, neither your present fraud of a boss or the silly Jolie would have a prayer.
DeleteThe momentum, as you well know, is toward infrastructure crumbling and blood in the streets. Sly's legacy is malignant failure.
And you know it.
Where's the audit of OPEN SPACES, another Slie fraud!!
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteSly is a latter day Mao Zedong, who would like to start a Cultural Revolution and send all who disagree with him to the countryside for forced work.
Sly's Killa' City.. The New Shit Hole of the Great Plains
ReplyDeleteWhat a bargain!
go4kc has a point, i believe sly should have just stopped at the streetcar. he tried to chew 1001 things to create a legacy not just for him but also as a sort of glorious watch this black man go like lightening whitey. Concentrating his efforts more thoroughly per item would have helped.
ReplyDeleteyou do not do a half ass job then send chris H. in to polish it up.
ReplyDeleteChris @ 10:49 - you're only telling u what the ANNOUNCED voting results were!
ReplyDeleteYour crooked Boss and Roly Poly had better pray that the truth about this election, as well as those regarding the Airport and Streetcar NEVER COME OUT - Election Fraud is treated seriously in this Country!
So, according to this meme, some Minority Persons are entitled to more than others are, right?
ReplyDeleteGee, I wonder who Mayor James has in mind for the local "Decider"?
i give sly credit for the streetcar and convention hotel. Those 2 in conjunction may be good investments for the city so are the more max buses on prospect.

ReplyDeleteMo' free stuff for Democrats!
Gay4KC @ 9:45, what have I done for KC?
ReplyDeleteWell, let's see - I'm a retired white guy, paid my taxes all the years I worked, help out doing handymen stuff around my neighborhood, go around picking up trash weekly.
Oh, and for the past five years, I've bought gravel and Asphalt Patch out of my own pocket that I've used to keep repairing a huge pothole in the street that YOUR GODDAMNED MAYOR JAMES AND MY USELESS COUNCILPERSON (Jolie Justus) WON'T DO JACK SHIT ABOUT!
Any of that count?
By your unbiased standards, I'd guess not, but I may be wrong.
This guy spends his time in absolute silence about being the 5th most dangerous city, affordable housing, economic stagnation and just about every other social justice issue that is under his actual responsibility but in the 11th hour he hosts a forum on race and wants to do Pre-K. Just a sell-out in every definition of the word. It will be great when he is gone and hopefully never comes back.
ReplyDeleteThis confirms that "equity" is code for equal outcomes. Say we contribute a million dollars to school funding. It buys new textbooks, the latest science lab equipment, more powerful laptop computers, and pays for more teachers and smaller class sizes. Most kids take advantage of the largess, by learning and refining their ability to think through problems. But some kids don't try to learn, act out in class, get suspended, attend school only sporadically and do not learn or develop how to think.
ReplyDeleteEquality of opportunity means the kids (and maybe their parents) failed.
Equity (equality of outcome) means a million dollars was not enough. Kick that up to two million.
Mayor James hasn't practiced "Equity" a day in his life. In fact I doubt he would even know what "Equity" is if it were to bitch slap him upside the head.
ReplyDelete^^and I doubt you would know what self-awareness was if it knocked you upside your thick skull. Dummy.
ReplyDeletesly has self-awareness and so must you 12:22, i will you Sage!
ReplyDeleteSuper Dave delivers another hard hitting factual point. Sorry 12:22 that the truth triggers you so bad.
ReplyDeleteIn a capitalistic society anyone that desires can work and be the best worker that they can be. That can bring success and rewards in many forms. You can then get a better job and pay or become an entrepreneur and make your way to living in a better neighborhood or improving your current one. Equity and equality are never promised to us. It is never just given. Equality is that everyone that aspires to be a success is given the chance. Equity is what you get from taking the chance. If you don't take the chance, you don't get the equity. Equity is how you measure someones success.
ReplyDeleteIs equal outcome when Wall Street Execs walk off with bonuses after the government bails them out with Billions of dollars ala the crash in 2008 or does it only apply when poor people get a handout?
ReplyDeleteSure, Gopher @9:45, you say you're getting TKC posts forwarded to you---but, it's obvious you watch this blog like a hawk to chime in for defending your masters. If this blog is to be ignored, as you plead, WTF are you doing here so often?!
ReplyDeleteAnd, Magic BowTie's infamous phrases are seen here, so he's checking in. Plus, you parrot his jargon, incessantly. Again, @10:49 there's that over-used "momentum", your fave word. Oh, that's right! Killa Shitty MOMENTUM---#5 most murderous---monumental debt burdened---maintenance neglected infrastructure---misappropriated education funds---money pits at 18th&Vine/P&L/Paseo renamed MLK/touristy streetcar/KCI---and MORE!
Gopher is not defending his master. He is licking his butthole.
Delete"It's strange to see lame duck mayor Sly James playing the social justice warrior after a tenure spent championing tax breaks for developers and misplaced priorities pushing the corporate agenda of the Greater Kansas City Chamber Of Commerce."
ReplyDeleteVery good point. Sly's done less for the eastside than any mayor in my memory. Had he been white, he'd have been called out as a racist.
As for gopher, with his calls for people not to read TKC ("I have told them to stop because this post is not relevant and should be ignored by the voters of Kansas City"), does he realize most people in KC do not live downtown, do not ride the streetcar, will not stay in one of the new hotels, and cannot afford (and do not desire) to live in one of the luxury future slum dwellings being built at taxpayer expense? What we'd like to see is a city that takes care of its infrastructure and fixes (not patches) potholes, starting with the "Welcome to Kansas City" craters at 75th & State Line.
1:08 STFU
ReplyDeleteMark Spitz would be a good mayor, he live there?
ReplyDelete1:34, neither is an example of equal outcome.
ReplyDeleteWhat a stupid meme based upon justice. Neither of the 3 paid to see the event they are trying to see. If all 3 paid for a seat then all three would have the same view. Thieves.
ReplyDeleteA lot of wasted print here.
ReplyDeletesLIE wants more tax money is what he means, more money, more toy train and developer giveaways
ReplyDeletePeople start on the lower rung of society mostly because they grow up in a single parent household. Yet the single mother who is the problem is glorified as if she had no choices in life. Subsidize irresponsible behavior and you will get more of it.
ReplyDelete1:53 for the win
ReplyDeleteSYLVESTER IS A STUPID PANDERING PUBLIC SOCIALIST/PRIVATE CRONY CAPITALIST SLUT
ReplyDeleteEQUALITY = accepting bids from all qualified airport terminal design/construction companies.
EQUITY = giving preferential treatment to those without experience and skills in airport terminal design/construction. (e.g. MBE/WBE)
CORRUPTION = trying to hand a no-bid contract for the city's most expensive ever infrastructure project to your campaign's largest contributor.
James/Justus/Schulte = 3 STOOGES who belong in prison
So, is this guy at the fence trying his best to save up his second job wages for his only 2 cared for and planned kiddies to have better futures? Maybe, he stays current on support payments, with no funds left to buy tickets.
ReplyDeleteOr, iz dis baby dad wid hiz chirrunz cupla inninz befo' he drop em at they gramma's on the way to the club. Then, he gotta be over to one of them other baby mama's ta get sum dat free SNAP+EBT supper, cause he be low ambition.
Notice the summer tans on the three disadvantaged...Wait! What? That's S'lie's equity tale. No needy pale faces depicted alongside the dark ones. They don't exist to Magic BowTie, huh?
Please hit the gong already on Sly. We don't want to see him pose or mug.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I swear that I am seeing "equality, equity, AND reality".
ReplyDeleteHe basically performed a classic attorney dismissive tactic.
In a way it was poetic; just like the huge pothole issue in the city, he selectively avoided the topic of reality.
Enjoy the final fifteen minutes in the spotlight, Silly-vester. A lot of us will not miss you when you're gone!
