TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! NEW KCI AIRPORT CHANGES SLUSH FUND NAME AFTER FAA SMACKDOWN!!! SWITCHEROO BETRAYS 'COMMUNITY' PAYOFF PROMISES!!!

Our blog community offers EPIC insight from the scene of today's airport conversation. Here's the word . . .

Renaming of Airport Slush Fund

At the airport committee meeting right now, and kind of appalled at what the council is considering in terms of the so-called Community Benefits Agreement, where airport revenues go to unrelated nonprofits around the city.

As you’ll probably recall, in August, the FAA said Edgemoor couldn’t use airport revenues for $14M of the $20M “Community-Improvement” pork barrel deal.

Credit where it's due, KSHB broke that story:
FAA -- Edgemoor, city can't use airport revenue for $14M in community benefits

The solution was for the city to make simple wording changes to skirt the common sense FAA rules. It’s now being called the “Terminal Workforce Development Agreement”

My favorite part is this slide, which underlined that they are making no actual changes to any of the programs:

Here's what we make of it . . .

IN AN OPEN MEETING KANSAS CITY IS PLAYING NAME GAMES AMID PUSH BACK FROM THE FAA ABOUT KEEPING BOND MONEY AT THE AIRPORT!!!

And here's where it gets worse . . .

ACTUALLY, ACCORDING TO CITY LEGAL THE SWITCHEROO CHEATS THE "COMMUNITY" INTERESTS AND ORGANIZATIONS WHO THOUGHT THEY WERE GONNA GET AN AIRPORT PAYDAY IN RETURN FOR THEIR SUPPORT!!!

Councilman Quinton Lucas asked about, "the program that relates to the purported representation that we'd be funding certain city or adjacent programs . . . Where does that live in the document?"

Galen Beaufort - Senior Associate City Attorney explained: "It does not live in any of these documents and if it did you can expect that the FAA will ding us in a few years out and ask us to pay money back out of our general fund."

Translation . . .

URBAN CORE AND NON-PROFIT GROUPS THAT SUPPORTED THE NEW KCI AND EDGEMOOR HAVE BEEN DECEIVED!!!

As we get into the deets of this boondoggle worth billions of dollars we see fewer people earning the windfall revenue that was promised and locals who were expecting at least a few tasty crumbs for their backing now getting nothing.
