TKC TOLD YOU SO!!! $10-MILLION GIFT FOR KANSAS CITY 18TH & VINE JAZZ DISTRICT TAKEN FROM INFRASTRUCTURE FUNDS!!!
East side political leaders brazenly support the always struggling 18th & Vine Jazz entertainment district over growing concern of urban core communities regarding basic infrastructure.
Today, Northeast News offers an important update on a topic that was dismissed by every media outlet in town because it inspires uncomfortable questions about policy priorities and leadership in one of the most economically challenged districts in KCMO.
Remember that we previewed the topic almost two weeks ago as this finale for 18th & Vine earns one of the biggest cash payments of a year that also included shoot outs, leadership turmoil and cutting questions about jazz junkets.
Accordingly . . .
18TH & VINE MIGHT AS WELL BURN ANOTHER $10-MILLION FROM CITY HALL BECAUSE THERE IS NO PLAN TO TURN AROUND THE STRUGGLING JAZZ DISTRICT AND MAKE IT SUSTAINABLE!!!
Money line:
"Councilman Reed took it upon himself to sponsor City Ordinance No. 180825 that re-directs roughly $10,000,000 (that’s ten million dollars for you decimal point-impaired folks playing along at home) from citizen-directed and Public Improvements Advisory Committee (PIAC)-approved infrastructure projects like sidewalks, street maintenance and street lights, and forwarding it to an entertainment district that has already been propped up by over $100 million in taxpayer subsidies over the last twenty or so years with little or no oversight.
"Reed’s ordinance was then approved unanimously by Council."
There's a lot of reasons why this work but weak and irresponsible public policy is the worst part and something that should concern voters first and foremost . . .
- Public input and information about jazz district spending is minimal.
- There is NO NEW PLAN to encourage sustainability.
- Violence inside the district worsened this year after a mass shooting debunked progressive hope for more tourism opportunities.
You decide . . .
The plan is simple. They get 10 million and then some. When the east side complains about limited funds for sidewalks and public improvements, they just have to keep complaining and they'll get even more money. It's a win win because nobody holds the leaders like Reed accountable.
ReplyDeleteHey now, Quinton Lucas obviously voted for this one too so he deserves the blame as well and it's one more reason that he should not be mayor.
DeleteNow is a great time to sell off some lincoln town cars! Forget about infrastructure.
DeleteWe are going to have one HELL of a hot dog festival in 2019!
ReplyDelete^^^ STFU.
DeleteThat's funny but misses the point. This is highway robbery and this money is going to be wasted in a way that could destroy one of the only places that is still accessible for the community. It's been on this blog before but Reed also helped push more liquor licenses in the district. There is a lot that needs to be examined here and shouldn't be swept under the rug. With this kind of money we need to see a budget for the district that is open for debate and public viewing. That is not happening and that would be more productive than just blaming the entire community for the actions of one or two leaders.
^^ +1
DeleteNo more money for Jazz. This nightmare has lasted longer than the jazz age. Think about that.
ReplyDeleteJust keep a steady supply of white sugar donut's and pastry's going and we the public will be content and happy.
ReplyDeleteThis should be illegal. Nobody running for city council should be reelected for voting for this one.

ReplyDeleteWould someone please post a link or something that explains how this $10M will be used?
ReplyDelete^^^ Good question but not even Woodward & Bernstien could figure out what they're going to do with it.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry too much about it. It will magically evaporate soon enough.
Talk about being in a sweet spot.
ReplyDeleteThey steal $10 million and when someone questions it they call them a racist and a Nazi.
That’s going buy a lot of Escalades for people who don’t deserve shit. They will go through like they’re ni**er rich and then they’ll come up with a new plan for this worthless shithole ghetto fiasco.
ReplyDeleteSave 70k to pay off the next failed manager like they did for Ms. Cheepito.

ReplyDeleteI blame all of Kansas City's democrats for this not just one or two leaders! You people knew this would happen when you voted for the go bond. As far as seeing a budget for the district that is open for debate and public viewing....that is laughable, it will never happen and you know it! You have already seen the money wasted, and you want to see a budget, and talk about it???? Suck it up! You voted for this with your eyes wide open, and screwed an entire city!!!!
Tony's teaser makes the point about specifically street lighting. Word! Has anyone noticed that miles of I-70 from basically paseo all the way to the stadiums is totally dark? The streetlights are all out.
ReplyDeleteAnd the streets and sidewalks of KC -- my God what a difference ten million could make in improvements.
The sad thing is sometimes there are visitors and even foreign visitors who make their way to 18th and vine. They look around and see the false facades (which are by now getting run down- dilapidated fakes - wrap your mind around that!) and the total lack of energy and commerce around them and think "what a dump!". KC would be better off not promoting 18th & vine bc it is embarrassing.

Hasn't this town sunk enough money into 18th and Vine ? It's unsustainable and as a taxpayer this kind of rerouted money grab is shameful. I take it Jermaine doesn't give a shit about the fucking potholes.
ReplyDeleteJermaine! Post a link explaining what this money will be used for...!!!
ReplyDelete"Has anyone noticed that miles of I-70 from basically paseo all the way to the stadiums is totally dark? The streetlights are all out. "
ReplyDeleteCall MODOT. It's their responsibility. Moron.
Maybe not because as one enters Independence the lights are working.
DeleteWe could literally dig up old Boss Pendergast from his grave, prop up what's left of him in the Mayor's chair, and he would do a hundred percent better job than the ambulance chasing grifter clown that currently claims the title.
ReplyDeleteTalk about pissing your money away.
ReplyDeleteOh snap...@12.34-you got knocked the fuck out!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSeems like nothing short of a yellow vest Paris of The Plains style uprising at this point is going to stop the looting and plundering this city inflicts on it's citizens. Sly and crew must consult with Macron for tips on how to rob your own people.
ReplyDeleteSo since it’s tax payer dollars do we get to see the salaries of those who oversee how this money is spent? How many six figure salaries will get handed out to Jermaine reeds friends?
ReplyDeleteThis is such bullshit
Reed rents an apartment at 2101 Vine St. Of course he wants us taxpayers in other neighborhoods to sink $10 million into his hood. Probably wants to upgrade his 2014 Volvo up to something more respectable also.
ReplyDeleteThat building he lives in, VINE STREET LOFTS LP is property tax exempt also while we are on the subject. City hasn't gotten a dime for a long long long long time on this place.
ReplyDeleteSo bascially the city says Fuck You! if you ask for a couple speed bumps or a stop sign and sends our money to this district with a ribbon bow and shiny wrapping.
ReplyDeleteIt's really sad to watch what passes for "leadership" in the black community constantly looking out for themselves and the little gang of grifter friends, family, and associates, and who are regularly able to roll the KCMO electeds to give them the keys to the city treasury.
ReplyDeleteThere are lots of regular hard-working folks who live on the east side and want nothing more than reasonably safe neighborhoods, decent streets and sidewalks, and maybe even a well-run responsible school district for their kids.
And their "representatives", whether they be neighborhood association poobahs, fake nonprofit "leaders", political insiders, or elected officials, can always be counted on to completely ignore even these most basic of expectations to look out for themselves and each other.
Don't try to blame anyone else.
The fault is clear for all to see.
Jermaine thinks he's going to be mayor? The public is not served by this-- people making money dishonestly include developers, city architecture division and there friends, and nothing will improve.
ReplyDeleteJermaine, post a link to explain how this money will be spent!!!
DeleteTime for some democrim heads to roll, who the hell keeps voting these losers in?
ReplyDeletehahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah - funjis
ReplyDeleteI’m glad this is you peoples problem and not mine, I can’t believe you all allow this to happen, it’s truly an amazing thing you keep voting these people in knowing they’re lying cheating cowards who continually steal your money for their own personal benefit, you all deserve every bit of this for not standing up, no wonder you live in flyover country, the stupidity there is astounding
ReplyDeleteJust East of The vine District Is Bryant, BBQ. AND THEY DO A BRISK BUSINESS AND SOMETIMES THERE ARE LINES. MORE PEOPLE ARE INTERESTED IN THE BAR B QUE THEN PARTYING IN THE JAZZ DISTRICT. AND THERE TO MANY PLACES WITH GREAT FOOD .THE JAZZ DISTRICT IS A MONEY PIT .
ReplyDelete^^Then why are you here dope? If you don't live in "flyover" country, yet you peruse and comment on a blog about "flyover" country, you must be one pathetic retard! No life?...no friends?..nothing going on in your life? Bounce troll and let us who are here answer those questions. Savvy?
ReplyDeleteShame! Shame! Shame!
ReplyDelete^^^ Shame of fools!
ReplyDeleteNot to worry Shitty council has lots more of our money to waste
ReplyDeleteMostly it’s just the black council members who are lying cheating cowards. Or in the case of Quinton, a drunken gay lying cheating affirmative action coward.
ReplyDelete18th and Vine is too big to fail- and nor should it!
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice to move $5 Billion from the border wall to 18th and Vine.
With that kind of money they could build prolific housing and Statues and Market places and start to move the Country Club Plaza piece by piece to the Vine area instead of Overland Park.
A nice lateral of the street car could help.
Then let’s sell the Plaza Tennis courts which Parks and Rec owns and use that money to build a Sly Statue where it could be a type of “transformer” and do double duty as a “mediator” between the Vine area and the Plaza.
If any money is left over- create an account at a brokerage and short the KC Star stock and use that fortune for free-WiFi for the area.
bwaha, they are moving Zona Rosa to the site of Terminal B
ReplyDeleteEvery single one of those crooked bastards at City Hall needs to be charged with Criminal Fraud for these payments of millions of dollars to their buddies. I am sure they are getting kickbacks!
ReplyDeleteThe Feds really should be called in to investigate this. How can an entity continue to steal money and get away with it?
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should pass some law or rules that the citizens get to vote on these things, I know I know, that’s lame but Jesus Christ these fools in charge of our city are spending and giving all our money to developers and crooks and everything outside the downtown loop is starting to look like Beirut, crying fucking shame our city looks this way and it’s only getting worse
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU TONY B.! You are the only journalist left in Cowtown.
ReplyDeleteHad the voters recalled Reed as per the numerous petitions against him, this wouldn't even be a thing. You ass kissers get what you pay for. In the ghetto $10 million split among thieves just isnt enough.
ReplyDelete^^^^^ Comment of the day right there @6:04
ReplyDeleteWhat idiot writes oh snap... WtF does that mean? Some silly kid shit????
ReplyDeleteWord to your mother.
DeleteKCMO’s lack of financial integrity is off the charts. No wonder city infrastructure and services are such a mess. The jazz district should have been closed down years ago. Nothing but a money hemorrhage.
ReplyDeleteTear it all down and build a new stadium at 18th and Vine. Then run the streetcar down 18th Street from Main St. At least they'll finally make some money off this district that way.
ReplyDeleteThe Kansas City City Council and other City Council's around the country are partially responsible for the rise of the extreme right wing Republican party.
ReplyDeleteThe 3rd District representatives along with the other City Council members who let these folks bully their way funding their pet projects is the best advertisement for the Republican Party today.
How much money is collected for these projects and from where in the City does it come from? A significant majority of the people whose tases are used to fund these pet projects would never vote to support them nor would they go to this area in the city.
