As usual our blog community was ahead of all of Kansas City in terms of calling out an impending disaster.
To wit . . .
TKC TOLD YOU SO!!! NEW KCI IS NOW STALLED AS COSTS ARE CLOSE TO 4-BILLION BUCKS RATHER THAN THE 2-BILLION CITY HALL ADMITS!!!
It's funny to hear insiders attempt to explain away the additional costs as "financing" when just about everybody knows that BUYERS HAVE TO PAY FINANCING COSTS AS WELL . . . Or at least that's how the good people at Fleshlight are explaining recent charges on my debit card.
Accordingly, here's a quick refresher on the airport to keep us up-to-date:
- Voters were promised a 1-BILLION DOLLAR new airport, again the cost is closer to 4 & rising.
- Two airlines won't sign on to start.
- Yesterday's airport committee meeting was the FIRST IN 3 MONTHS thanks to Council Lady Jolie -- The chair of the group.
- The quadrupling of costs starts before a shovel has yet to hit the ground.
- Plans have yet to be revealed to the public, we've only seen drawings/renderings and it's likely the final product will be a cheap plastic & glass substitute for the more sturdy KCI.
That's where we are now but it's gets better . . .
LAST NIGHT THERE WAS A TENSE PUBLIC DISAGREEMENT BETWIXT KANSAS CITY OPINION LEADERS!!!
In this clip we capture the best part of Conservative Patrick Tuohey debating civic leader Jim Heeter over the current price dispute.
And so, the airport argument persists as City Hall is soon to spend even more cash to maintain a project that supporters promised wouldn't cost taxpayers a dime.
More news:
Fox4: Airline dispute delaying agreement on new KCI single-terminal airport
WG: 2 small airlines protest KC airport project
KSHB: Mayor works to keep new KCI terminal plan on track
KCUR: Small Airlines Worry Bigger Price Tag On New Kansas City Terminal Could Force Them Out
KMBC: At Thursday's meeting, where the KCI airlines were expected to have a progress report, Mayor Sly James called the dispute a "kink" in the new airport's momentum.
Developing . . .
It's about time somebody told big jim heeter that his statements don't add up. Nice work.
ReplyDeleteSo, when is this thing going to be done?
DeleteAny time around 2030 or maybe later?
Taking way to long to start work, the current council should be ashamed of itself. It's a reason to vote against them in the next election.
^^^^^^^^^^^^ That and so much more. With only 2 or 3 exceptions.
DeleteAgain and again TKC, you are attempting to thwart the progress and momentum of Kansas City and here you have failed miserably.
ReplyDeleteMr. Heeter isn't talking about the pricetag, he merely wants a fair comparison which you refuse to provide him. When you include financing the costs of both the voter initiative and the current add-ons rise EQUALLY! And so you must compare the initial cost estimate to the new one instead of just adding interest on, that is disingenuous.
I think we can all admit there is room for improvements in how the airport developed but the scare tactics over costs are something that must be stopped. We are builiding one of the best cities in the nation that must have a world class airport, to deny that to voters would be a wasted opportunity.
^^^^^^^^^^^^ Jeezy Creezy the consultants and city hallers get on here quick. Btw GoFer, you're completely WRONG.
DeleteGo4KC again and again demonstrates how willing he is to lick Sly’s butthole
DeleteLooks to me this project could exceed $4 Billion... easy.
ReplyDeleteDelays and re-determination of plans to see this go to $8 Billion.
Airlines can’t pay for this as the investment/return doesn’t add up.
Small airlines will leave and the Big big big airlines will laugh as tickets soar and ultimately citizens everywhere will have to pay in the form of higher tickets.
As a percentage of income- this affects the poor.
Seems some people are okay with this.
Petition to walk this Trojan should begin and start all over... small is better?
^^^^^^^ Absolutely correct.
ReplyDeleteAlso, where in the F*CK is my fountain? Weren't we promised that?
Oh so the voters voted for an "initial cost estimate"?
ReplyDeleteLOL.. Go4KC you are one funny idiot.
Can't we just build an airport ? Why does it have to a mall too ? Travelers come to visit the city not the airport.
ReplyDeleteAnd Mayor Bullhorn's fumbling griftathon goes on and on. What a disaster of corruption and cluelessness; in other words typical.
ReplyDeleteThe airport is going to start going over $5 billion before you know it. More millions thrown around for more studies.
ReplyDeleteAlbert Einstein once said, mans intelligence is limited but his stupidity is infinite.
ReplyDeleteWhy is this being debated? Who in their right mind would consider a billion dollar or more price tag for a new airport acceptable? With that kind of money, we would be better off renovating MCI and building another terminal on the Kansas side in South Johnson County.
ReplyDeleteThis is the most embarrassing thing to happen in this town ever, no wonder nobody wants to build a company here, Jesus Christ what an effing joke, and then there’s Go4kc and his blinding love of sLIE and all his failures, Go4kc comes in 2nd for most embarrassing to our city.
ReplyDeleteD.C. may be a swamp but that's probably preferable to a KCMO cesspool.
ReplyDeleteCesspool is a good choice of nomenclature to describe Sly's regime of error.
ReplyDeleteare there going to be scooters for rent inside?
ReplyDeleteRichard Florida was pushing the airport pitch to city's back in 2009, calming if the creative class thing fails, which it is, and you can't find work locally an airport will help people commute to work. If that fails move.
ReplyDeleteSo, it was bait-and-switch from the beginning. Yet more evidence that Kansas City thinks its citizens are no more than a big ATM.
ReplyDeleteEverybody connected with city government is using the word "momentum," as a positive. But "momentum" is also what a truck builds after it is driven over a cliff. That's a better analogy for the kind of "mo" that KC has.
Or at least that's how the good people at Fleshlight are explaining recent charges on my debit card....HAHA!!
ReplyDeleteGood one. I hope you got the Aviator model...by mistake, I mean.
For anyone who hasn't been copied on the memo:
ReplyDeleteEdgemoor will be "edged" out of this terminal deal.
Who remains in place at KCMO City Hall?
Troy Schulte, City Manager
Sylvester James, Mayor
Jolie Justus, Councilmember and Mayoral candidate
Is it a coincidence that these 3 secretly colluded with Burns and McDonnell leadership to steer KCMO's largest ever public works project to Burns and McDonnell after the company served as a top campaign contributor to James/Justus?
FBI referral pending
I'm sure Tony will push "his" estimate (since it's not anybody else's) up to $6 billion next week.
ReplyDeleteGo4KC sure has his shorts in a knot. Very obvious if someone does not go along with the city narrative or subscribe to group think then Go4KC cries foul or that is not fair.
ReplyDeleteWhat is not fair is the way the powers to be at city hall have pulled a bait and switch on the taxpayers.
Way past time to remodel existing airport or build the hyper loop to St. Louis and travel there to fly out of their airport. Maybe take a Uber ride to the St. Louis airport and then fly.
^^^ nobody cares what you think
ReplyDelete4:36 meant for 3:32
ReplyDeleteThe planning for the proposed new airport has been in the works for 6 years and what we see now is the result of 6 years of planning.
ReplyDeletePreschoolers can do better than that.
It will cost a fortune to fly out of or to KCI if these billions are passed thru to ticket purchasers. Yikes how are these boomers going to take their vanity vacations to Kilimanjaro or Machu pichu.
ReplyDelete-Radish
PS kci isn’t so bad as is in my opinion. It serves our city well.
glad to see the cool fountain was put back in the design.
ReplyDeleteNeed to serve the YOLO, ADD, and INSTANT GRATIFICATION crowd.
ReplyDeleteJolie's leadership at it's best. No Jolie for mayor!!

ReplyDeletethat seems like some exterior space is accessible after going through security.
For Edgemoor, to show up and the first thing they say - 'the first thing we are going to do is rip down terminal A' - and then build on the site of terminal A is odd.
terminal A will basically be converted into a giant cube of fckn parking.
ReplyDeleteterminal A will be converted to a giant fckn cube of parking.
ReplyDeleteterminal A will be converted into a giant fckn cube of parking!!!
