An abridged rundown of the sitch:
"The suspect, who was charged in the shooting, was beaten by two men, prior to firing shots at them as they ran towards the food court, according to multiple witnesses . . .
"Officers responded to a shots fired call around 8:15 p.m. at the busy mall on Friday, Oct. 26. When they arrived, they found shell casings and the automatic doors to the food court shattered by bullet holes."
The confrontation:
"One witness told detectives that he believed a man identified later as THE SHOOTING SUSPECT was being robbed. He said that he was standing next to a red truck with a child in his arms, while two other men punched him multiple times and appeared to be trying to take something from him.
"The same witness told detectives that the man who was being beaten put the child in the truck and pulled out a gun. THE SHOOTING SUSPECT then allegedly followed the two men towards the food court and opened fire before getting in the truck and leaving the scene . . .
"Surveillance video obtained from the mall showed two men following THE SHOOTING SUSPECT and his children into the parking lot after they’d finished shopping. They were wearing clothing similar to what was described by the witnesses."
And so . . .
ACCORDING TO THIS TESTIMONY, THE OAK PARK MALL SHOOTER MIGHT HAVE BEEN "A GOOD GUY WITH A GUN" UNDER ATTACK AND DEFENDING HIS FAMILY!!!
Whilst his actions were obviously overzealous and threatened other bystanders. It's worth considering that most locals would be hard-pressed to show any restraint when one of their youngsters was facing attack.
These new deets offer more perspective on the confrontation and unsubstantiated fear that shoppers were under attack. The reality is that, while the proliferation of guns might concern some, this story also demonstrates a gun owner possibly saving the life of youngsters during a potentially deadly parking lot brawl.

ReplyDeleteA "good guy with a gun" defending himself and his family doesn't flee the scene. He stays and tells his side of the story. If he wasn't legal to have the gun, or had warrants etc, he was a bad guy with a gun. Big difference!!

Read the story. It is full of grammatical errors. Got to wonder where that reporter went to J School, and how he or she was allowed to graduate.
