TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! EXTRAVAGANT KANSAS CITY 'OPEN SPACES' BUDGET REVEALED!!! CURATOR DAN CAMERON ALLOTTED EPIC $250K!!!

Without question the Kansas City "Open Spaces" festival has been one of the most costly and controversial artistic endeavors of 2018.

Within City Hall there is growing concern that rising expenses of the event will force bureaucrats to dip into the general fund. Already, insiders warn us that the REAL COSTS of the weeks-long-endeavor have run up a deficit of $750K. Initially, $500K of taxpayer funds was appropriated to subsidize this event without any input or approval from voters.

And now . . .

CHECK THE TKC EXCLUSIVE 1ST LOOK AT THE KANSAS CITY OPEN SPACES BUDGET REVEALING AN EPIC $750K PLEDGED TO CURATOR DAN CAMERON!!!

Here's one of the first raw budget files thanks to KICK-ASS DENIZENS OF OUR AWESOME TKC BLOG COMMUNITY . . .

And now, take a look at the line item that really stands out . . .

Just so there's not any doubt, according to the project website Open Spaces 2018 is led by internationally-recognized curator Dan Cameron.

Previously, we noted that Mr. Cameron has a mixed financial record when it comes to pricey artistic festivals . . .

Example:

Artforum: Dan Cameron Steps Down as Director of Prospect New Orleans

Money line . . .

"Prospect director and founder Dan Cameron has announced his resignation from the five year old organization . . . The former curator of the New Museum stated that his decision to leave was partially due to financial troubles, notably over the Prospect.1, the New Orleans biennial that took place in 2008. The $5 million show, which was free to the public, went almost $1 million dollars in debt . . ."

And now . . .

A QUARTER OF A MILLION BUCKS FOR PICKING A MONTH'S WORTH OF QUESTIONABLE KANSAS CITY ART SEEMS FAR TOO RICH FOR THIS COWTOWN!!!

We have a lot to debate with KCMO regarding artsy extravagance and this MAJOR LEAGUE PAYOUT for a cowtown art fair is a clear cut example of City Hall getting carried away their promotional efforts. SPENDING TAXPAYER MONEY at such an outlandish pace is FAR TOO RICH for the vast majority of working-class residents forced to finance this event.

  1. Wow, that is a nice paycheck. I can see how that one would make a lot of local residents jealous. The exhibits were nice but not worth that kind of money.

    2. Thanks Sly!

More money for your snob friends. I guess it's all good as long as KC is paying the tab.

  2. TKC obviously hates the arts or is jealous he wasn't invited. Seems very petty to me. To post this information.

Taxpayers are paying for it. It belongs to the public!

  3. Posting this budget is irresponsible and wrong TKC. Yes, it may be a public document but Open Spaces was also funded by mostly PRIVATE donors. By covering the series of events so negatively you are doing a great disservice to not only Kansas City but also the artistic community who are looking for the support and connections that someone like Dan Cameron can provide. You are throwing a lot of people under the bus and doing damage to KC's growing reputation as an important metropolitan arts community.

And I just have to ask why would you and so many of your readers be against more are and FREE exhibits that all of the public can enjoy? Once again, I think this kind of antisocial behavior must be opposed. There were so many people involved in this event who want to make Kansas City better and improve our community. What I see here is only negativity and just another way to make it harder for those to help and beautify our great city. It will not work, our momentum is too strong and Open Spaces was a big part of the arts community improving Kansas City.

  4. 11:05 if your momentum is so strong you should foot the bill...it is time to fix some infrastructure, not focus on art for the few.

  5. Go4KC states; "And I just have to ask why would you and so many of your readers be against more are and FREE exhibits that all of the public can enjoy?"

First off this boondoggle is not FREE as it cost the taxpayers a bundle. This bundle of taxpayers money could have been better used to fix failing infrastructure.

If so many people want to "make Kansas City better and improve our community" and want "to help and beautify our great city." then Go4KC should encourage them to push to get the failing infrastructure fixed.

  6. What a waste. Really no excuse for this kind of expense. Not in KC or anywhere in the Midwest.

  7. Wrong venue. Ideal event for Shawnee Mission Park.

  8. Artsy snobs. Do you see how these liberals and progressives operate? Sucking up tax dollars for themselves? The arts doesn’t produce jobs. This is a sly James administration type of behavior with money.

  9. Thanks. Can we get your credential? Otherwise, it's just your worthless opinion.

  10. It’s a miracle! Gopher boy didn’t mention toy train and moving forward with momentum in his entire pack of lies! Holy cow, call the pope, there’s been a miracle! Hahahahaha!!!

Speaking of antisocial, you only fixed downtown and left the rest of the city to rot, who’s really antisocial here you pathological liar.

  11. Obviously Go4Kc has never been in business before. KC is on the verge of being bankrupt like Detroit. A crumbling city with bad schools, water system, sewers, crime, streets, sidewalks, and no money to fix it. What do you propose GO4Kc? Would you take a trip to Europe if you don't have the money? What world do you live in GO4Kc?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Oh look it’s the credentials boy again. The one who doesn’t know the different between the two genders. This arts stuff doesn’t really do much for the city. Most people don’t say....gee what city can I travel to for some arts?

Here is some more knowledge. When boys have daddy issues they end up being gay. When girls have daddy issues they end up being the sluts.

  13. Picasso ruined art. Throw anything together and use the word "art" and it becomes an all encompassing excuse.

  14. Oh boy it's the mouth-berthing retard again at 12:50PM. Here is some more knowledge. When people get old, they get frightened by a world that no longer has any use for them. They feel left behind and alone and lash out at things they don't understand or cannot comprehend. Don't worry though pops, you'll be dead soon and your worthless thoughts, opinions and life will be forgotten.

  15. Hey Stupid money sucker Art Boy drive around 28th Van Brunt and many other locations first before any artsy bullshit PICK UP THE FUCKING TRASH MAYOR all over. 17. Go4KC, I want a refund on my tax money that was pissed away on this useless shit!

Your claim that "all of the public can enjoy" this spectacle is a lie, it is in a location that was chosen to exclude the vast majority of the residents of KC, and don't try to deny that such a choice was deliberate!

God damn it, will you please show the slightest bit of respect or at least make a feeble attempt to hide your personal contempt for the taxpayers of this City!

  18. The problem with “the arts” is that there are no standards to the art. It’s in the eye of the beholder. It’s why progressives are so attracted to it. Feminists can paint a canvas with menstrual blood and call it fighting the patriarchy.

    ReplyDelete
  19. An artist could defecate on the front page of the Star and it would be displayed in the open spaces event.

Some artsy snob would see it and exclaim the artist had corn and peanuts for lunch.
The next one would claim they could smell burritos from the boulevard.
Another one would claim it’s the artist’s rendering of what the Star really is.
An unhappy viewer would say it’s the artist’s view of the open spaces event.
The skeptic would say it represents the artist’s view of KCMO, dried up and blown away within a year.
A late viewer would look at and proclaim it to be MLK art.

You know, the other day I joked about dipping my manhood into jars of paint and whipping it all over a board to bring to one of these artsy events. Now that I think about it with this weird stuff going on it might be a good idea. I really think I could inspire these art hipsters. Do I just go wild and beat that board in a sloppy rage or do I take my time and paint a structure?

The title of this masterpiece will be “exploring my sexuality”. That’s a good progressive name. First $1,000 takes it home!

  22. KC's growing reputation as an important metropolitan arts community? Our arts community is basically a counter cultural bunch of unemployed homosexual faggots and lesbians. They have no talent or skill.

  23. ^^^ all they’re doing is waiting for the gubmint to give them everything, that’s what they do

  24. Go4KC spewed "Posting this budget is irresponsible and wrong TKC."

Evidently Go4KC does not believe in a transparent government and only believes in keep the taxpayers in the dark.

  25. The marketing and awareness a campaign for the event must have been poorly executed. (I’m looking at you, KC Creates..)
I wasn’t aware of Open Spaces until I read about it today on Tony’s KC. I would have been interested in some of the events, it might even have lured me out of the JoCo safety bubble to attend.

  26. Dan Cameron has a exceptional track record of failed events.

  27. 3:03 For the record they call those action paintings, such as de kooning. as long as your piece is public performance art too, i'd be happy to watch.

  28. so, yes, just go wild and beat that board in a sloppy rage.

    ReplyDelete
  29. and it is not irresponsible or wrong to post a list of expenses, budget, or workers comp.

  30. if a man is going to publically beat his dick on a canvas in a sloppy rage, that is a legitimate public discourse of the current zeitgeist.

Best post above: Guy who just wants sidewalks.

    About says it all.

Once the "caravans" arrive, probably find more "artists" in their ranks needing all kinds of support, including health care, food stamps.

Go4KC should admonish KC taxpayers to feel honored to finance even more social programs for future democrat voters.

  39. the 'artist' selection process was a joke. we can only suspect the poor response led to cameron having to fill spots with the artists from his previously failed projects. the office of cultural appropriation, who has a director that is MIA, was incapable of implementing anything beyond the sad promo videos that featured wannabe rappers who only get facetime because of sLIEs favortism.
