Again, we talked about local hype machine estimates of KCMO population back in May and now "journalists" are rehashing our conversation on their vacay days . . .
Take a look:
Is Kansas City’s Population Growing?
The reality . . . Kinda.
A few fact checks:
- Yes, Downtown is earning more residents but still doesn't match the growth of the Nortland OR JoCo and the metro is far too diverse to be lumped into one generalization.
- The estimates for continued KCMO growth might also predict that trees grow as high as skyscrapers and doesn't factor in economic slow down or pull back from the rampant subsidies that power the building boom or even market saturation that already seems to be slowing down growth.
- Some of the optimism is well deserved but more residents might not always be a great thing as the continued urban to rural migration and influx of homeless basically dumps a lot more po'folk in KCMO to fight for resources already stretched thin.
Check the graph:
Deets:
Transplants helped the region’s population break 2 million last year, and MARC projects the area will add 400,000 more residents by 2040.
Historically, much of the population growth occurred in the suburbs — and it still does. The counties expecting the largest percent increases in population by 2040 are all suburban, according to MARC estimates: Platte will experience the most growth — an increase of more than 50 percent — followed by Clay and Johnson, at 44 and 43 percent, respectively.
Developing . . .
Bottom Line: Families still want to live in JoCo because the schools might not be better but they're certainly safer.
ReplyDelete^^^^^^^^^ I always here that but it's not even close to being correct. There are literally dozens of school districts in KCMO and only 2 have partial accreditation. And the fact is that there are really only a couple of schools that are really dragging everyone else down. Charter schools are an option, private schools are also more affordable the closer you get to the urban core. The only thing you're paying for in the suburbs is the right to waste more gas.
DeleteKC has great potential but the crime is holding us back. Solve that and this really could be one of the best places in the midwest. Right now, Omaha has us beat which is insulting.
DeleteKc doesn't have have the appeal, regardless of crime rate, to attack people from the east or west. Our main sources of new residents are still regional.
DeleteAttract -- haha. Freudian slip.
DeleteMake Kansas City great again?
ReplyDeleteKc has always had small, incremental growth. This is normal.
ReplyDeleteKC has never had, and never will (thank god) have rapid growth like Austin, San Antonio and Phoenix, and other cities have experienced.
has anyone heard of this? MARC certainly has. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deindustrialization
ReplyDeleteThe illegal aliens are also holding KCMO back. Eliminate them and the metro would experience some improvement. Eliminate crime and illegals and there would be a big improvement. Fix the failing infrastructure would make a big improvement.
ReplyDeleteYes, and the geezers too. Nobody wants to live next to them either. Remove them and we will really improve!
DeleteNice try, comrade. Your russian trolling won't fire up the natives.
DeleteMost influential KC company appears to be Baltimore Cordish with many millions of benefits. Why don't they care more about Killa City?
ReplyDeleteMaybe goferKC and coproboy know.
The large amount of homosexuals in Kansas City keeps the population from growing. Normal people do not want to live near homosexuals.
ReplyDelete^^^^ Move back to Joplin @3:00 - You aren't fooling anybody by trying to act to butch.
ReplyDeleteBitch.
You must be a homosexual. Sorry, nobody wants to live near you.
DeleteDon't worry SLies bills are going to come due soon enough then the truth shall be revealed.
ReplyDeleteStatistics can be fun and percentages are the most manipulative of all.
ReplyDeleteIf you start with zero and add one, you've increased something by 100%.
Kind of like the "downtown renaissance".
The actual numbers tell the story and KCMO north of the river and the suburbs are pulling the freight in the region.
3:35 poor baby, does your butt hurt from the all nighter in Westport!
ReplyDeleteAccording to gopherkc we are moving forward and have the bestus City ever! I bet he’s been working hard today to come up with some more lies to tell, pro tip gopherkc, your 25 million tourists put the word out and you guessed it, you guys ruined killa shitty!

ReplyDeleteTypical KCMO Urban Sohisticate
kansas city has been and will likely be pretty steady, with ups and downs averaging out.
ReplyDeleteask a friend in atlanta, phoenix, or even nashville if they're happy about their cities' growth. it might be good for homeowners but the quality of life goes down in general.
John Wayne was a fag. I installed two-way mirrors at his pad in Brentwood, and he'd come to the door in a dress.
ReplyDeleteI will tell you what I am. I am a Repo Man.
